Will Brooks Defeated Michael Chandler With Torn Hamstring

Bellator lightweight champion Will Brooks beat Michael Chandler with a torn hamstring.

The fighter broke the news about his injury prior to the match in an interview with MMAJunkie.com

“I just refused to not fight,” Brooks told MMAJunkie.com.

The injury was apparently suffering during a sparring session ahead of the match-up, as Brooks slipped while trying to defend against a takedown attempt from UFC veteran Nik Lenz. When he heard the pop in his leg, Brooks was immediately taken to a nearby medical facility.

Soon afterwards, a doctor informed Books that he had a Grade 2 hamstring tear and would likely need to withdraw from the fight to complete the one-two month recommended recovery time.

“As soon as he said that, me and my girlfriend walked out of the room,” Brooks said. “We were like, ‘Nah, that’s not really an option.'”
