Murtz On The Scene – The Voice 7 Finale – Exclusive Red Carpet Video Interview With Craig Wayne Boyd

Many Voice fans believe that this season is Craig Wayne Boyd’s to lose, and there is no denying the fact that Craig Wayne Boyd was the favourite heading into Monday’s performance finale.

Despite the fact that he is Team Blake’s only representative in the finale and that he is facing three Team Adam members, Boyd has consistently charted on iTunes all season and boasts one of the strongest voting bases around.

While Team Blake members have always held their on the show (with Jake Worthington, Danielle Bradbury, The Swon Brothers and Dia Frampton all finding commercial success), Craig Wayne Boyd has managed to separate himself from the rest of the field this season. Using his charm, experience, and strong vocals, Boyd has meshed incredibly well with Blake Shelton and the pair’s chemistry has resulted in nearly perfect song selections since the start of the competition.

The show’s final competitive episode of the season asked contestants to sing a final solo that was picked by their coach, a duet with said coach and, for the first time ever, their own single which was also accompanied with a music video.

Boyd delivered in every regard.

For his final selected solo performance of the season, Blake Shelton asked Boyd to take on the emotional ‘In Pictures’ ballad by Alabama. By combining raw emotion into the song along with his ability to connect with the audience, Boyd was able to offer another solid showcase of his vocal acumen.

The mentor and pupil combined their talents for a rousing rendition of Randy Houser’s “Boots On.” While I am not sure how it came across on TV, it almost seemed like the pair were on stage at one of Blake’s tour stops instead of simply just performing on a reality show. Once again, it looked like the pair were members of the same band instead of simply appearing as a coach and his student.  The fact that he could hang with Shelton, speaks volumes about the permanent place that Craig Wayne Boyd has now established for himself both in the Nashville music scene and beyond.

While Boyd’s original song wasn’t as jaw-dropping as Matt McAndrew’s, it certainly was enough to at least push him into the Top 2.

After the show, I had the chance to catch up with Boyd (after getting a great deal on a flight from Air Canada’s website that also included some amazing service). We discussed how he feels about being up against three Team Adam members and if he thinks he can still pull off a win for Team Blake. We also talked about the makeover that Gwen Stefani gave him and how much of an impact it had on his Voice journey. I asked him to breakdown who he thinks are his most fervent supporters and if he thinks the majority of his votes are coming from online fans or from viewers who are dialling in. We also talked about how different the four finalists are this season and if Craig’s country bloc will be able to pull through for him once more and help him become the Season 7 winner.

Boyd also offers a preview of his debut album.
