John Cena Heel Turn In Discussion For Build to WWE Wrestlemania 31

News

What would be the scenario?

Brock Lesnar’s contract has become a major creative issue in the build for WWE Wrestlemania 31.

If Brock is not going to sign on for an extension after Wrestlemania 31, then he is in a position of being a lame duck, with the audience knowing that it would be his last night. This last happened to him at Wrestlemania 20 in a match vs. Goldberg where both men were known to be leaving, and the crowd turned on the match.

A major idea being discussed is to have The Authority screwing over Brock for the title at the Royal Rumble, and Cena revealing he was working with the Authority, thus turning heel. Then Roman Reigns could win the Rumble itself and go against a heel Cena in the Wrestlemania main event.

Anytime a Cena heel turn is brought up, it’s generally shot down because of his ability to draw, as well as his charity work and merchandise sales. But with WWE business at a lull, it is the least risky time in a while to make the move. And as CM Punk noted on his appearance on the Art of Wrestling, all of the wrestlers do “Make a Wish” appearances, so losing Cena is not as bad as it seems for that purpose.

It remains to be seen whether WWE will pull the trigger on a Cena heel turn now, but the timing is better than it’s been in a long time for it to happen.
