Video Of The Day: Matthew McConaughey’s Audition For Dazed And Confused

Media, Video

Well alright, alright, alright.

Watching the Golden Globes telecast Sunday night you may have noticed Matthew McConaughey looking like a wolf with his beard of his. He would pop up during the event in cutaways and would see himself as part of the award presentation late into the evening.

Before he became an Oscar-winning thespian (Dallas Buyers Club), before A Time to Kill and his run of awful romantic comedies, he was just a young twenty-something who happened to meet the casting director of Dazed and Confused.

Those who are familiar with the Richard Linklater ’70s-set coming-of-age comedy are well aware of what was the outcome of the audition. Now the Criterion Collection has released the pre-McConnaissance audition tape for his role as Wooderson.

It is the role that would make McConaughey become an actor. With more than fifty titles to his credit and working with the likes of Martin Scorsese (The Wolf of Wall Street), Steven Spielberg (Amistad), Christoper Nolan (Interstellar) and of course Richard Linklater (Bernie) I guess you could say he made the right decision.
