Oscar Nominations Banner

The complete list of nominees for the 87th Academy Awards, the most prestigious award in Hollywood, have been announced.  Most selections seem to fall into place where awards prognosticators had predicted minus a few snubs and surprises here and there. The 87th Academy Awards takes place on Sunday, February 22nd and will emminate live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on ABC. Neil Patrick Harris is host.

With the selections, I’m upset that Steve Carell got the nod over Jake Gyllenhaal for best lead actor. Other snubs include Force Majure for Best Foreign Language and The LEGO Movie for Best Animated Feature Film. I love that Marion Cotillard got recognition for her performance in Two Days, One Night, but I wished Jessica Chastain had gotten the nod over Laura Dern or Meryl Streep in the Supporting Actress race for her performance in A Most Violent Year.

For those keeping track, Birdman and Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel lead all films with nine nominations each, followed by The Imitation Game which received eight.
