Secret Wars 2015 Battleworld Map

The 17th Marvel Comics classic event revisited during 2015’s Secret Wars also involves the Avengers vs. the Guardians of the Galaxy in: KORVAC SAGA! The 18th Marvel event redux is their second Secret Wars tie-in featuring them: MARVEL ZOMBIES!

(Caveat: There are a few other net new series that are part of Secret Wars 2015 that are unique, but the majority are event redux.)

SPOILERS follow for these two series, branded under Warzones and Battleworld respectively.

KORVAC SAGA

Marvel Comics has announced that Dan Abnett will write 2015’s Korvac Sage with newcomer Otto Schmidt on art. The Dan Abnett describes the series as follows: “In the hierarchy of Battleworld, Wonder Man is another lord, on a par with Korvac. They rule neighboring domains. The Avengers (a great line up) are Wonder Man’s retainers, the equivalent of Korvac’s Guardians [3000]. There’s a power struggle going on between these powerful lords and their kingdoms. It’s mainly political, but it could get physical at any moment. Exactly the wrong time for trouble to arise in Korvac’s domain.”

Marvel describes the original 1978 Korvac Saga as: “He hails from an unimaginable era: the 31st century. Fleeing through the timestream from the pursuing team of futuristic defenders known as the Guardians of the Galaxy, Korvac the Machine Man has established a secret presence on present-day Earth in the self-created persona of the mysterious Michael. Through such an unassuming guise, Korvac contemplates the elements of a universe he thirsts to command. Yet despite the subtlety of Michael’s machinations, the world’s greatest super-team — the mighty Avengers — catches wind of his cosmos-conquering scheme, thus drawing the two titanic forces into inevitable conflict.”

MARVEL ZOMBIES

In addition to Secret Wars 2015’s Age of Ultron vs. Marvel Zombies, we will also get a standalone Marvel Zombies series. Marvel Comics has announced that Si Spurrier will write the series and Kev Walker will provide the art. Spurrier describes the series as follows: “With this tale I’m actually doing something a bit sly, by kind of positioning the zombie trope as my controlling idea. In other words the whole tale revolves around themes of relentlessness and single-minded purpose. In the case of the zombies that purpose is pretty obvious: Eat flesh and brains. Find more people. Eat flesh and brains. Find more people. Aaaand so on… In the case of Elsa [Bloodstone], [there’s a] profound melting pot of indomitable drives to do with family ties, duty and old scars, which manifest as a deeply-ingrained refusal to give up. She’s a really, really cool character.”

Marvel Zombies Secret Wars 2015 A

Marvel describes the 2005 Marvel Zombies mini-series as: “Torn from the pages of ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR! On an Earth shockingly similar to the Marvel Universe’s, an alien virus has mutated all of the world’s greatest super heroes into flesh-eating monsters! It took them only hours to destroy life as we know it – but what happens when they run out of humans to eat?! Follow their search for more food, and witness the arrival of the Silver Surfer!”

I’ve asked this before and I’ll do so again. We now have 18 events revisited during Secret Wars 2015. Will there be a number 19th and even a 20th event redux?
