DC Comics’ Convergence #3 hit stands today and it was a jammed-packed issue!
Before we get into the spoilers for this issue and our review, here’s what you need to know heading into Convergence #2 just a click away. They’ll get you caught up on the previous lead-in issues of the eight week long event series:
It’s important to note that we’ve heard from writer Jeff King that Earth 2’s Dick Grayson will have a huge role in Convergence. That continues this week and it all springs from the Convergence #3 preview.
Spoilers and review follow for Convergence #3.
The Bottle City of Kandor defies Telos with devastating results.
Deimos takes some of the Earth 2 Society members to the the center of the planet which appears to house something Telos fears. It appears it can be found in Skartaris, the home of Deimios, Warlord and Shakira!
The Earth 2 Superman joins his teammates with Deimos, but the Earth 2 Batman doesn’t. They are both losing or have lost their powers. The Earth 2 Dick Grayson follows Thomas Wayne, the Earth 2 Batman.
We also learn that that there is something untoward with Deimos. He has Shakira, from Warlord fame, assisting him holding the DC Comics multiverse’s time travelers prisoners. They include villains like Per Degaton and Monarch, but also heroes as this plot-line will play out in this core weekly series as well as in the Convergence Booster Gold 2-shot with 2 Booster Golds. I can’t wait to see how this plays out in Convergence #4 and in the Booster Gold mini-mini-series.
Earth 2 Batman is attacked by another un-domed bottled city’s Batman Rogues Gallery. And, he makes the ultimate decision to sacrifice himself to spare the Earth 2 Dick Grayson. It looks like the Earth 2 Dick Grayson may be the new Batman we’ve seen in the teasers for the new post-Convergence series Earth 2: Society.
However, a multiverse’s Joker shoots and injures the Earth 2 Dick Grayson, but Telos intervenes and kills him, confronting Grayson in his pursuit of his Earth 2 Justice Society friends. This sets up Convergence #4 nicely.
