Here is a quick look at some highlights on the shelves this week. Marvel’s Secret Wars continues with a bunch of tie-ins, and I’ve included a list of TPBs I recommend. Some cool #1s from Dark Horse and BOOM this week, so let’s take a look…

Justice League: Justice League Gods and Monsters Wonder Woman 1Gods And Monsters – Wonder Woman #1 – Written by J.M. DeMatteis & Bruce Timm; Art by Rick Leonardi; Cover by Jae Lee, Variant Cover by Darwyn Cooke

  • While I haven’t read the JL:G&A Superman one-shot from last week yet, I did read the Batman issue and was surprised at how much I liked it. The online clips caused a lot of hype too, so this should be another hit in a series of surprises.

Ms. Marvel #17 – Written by G. Willow Wilson; Art by Adrian Alphona; Cover by Kris Anka

  • The team-up we’ve all been waiting for, especially Kamala Khan, is here! Ms. Marvel & Captain Marvel vs. the end of the world!

This Damned Band #1This Damned Band 1 – Written by Paul Cornell; Art and Cover by Tony Parker

  • When a “Satan-Worshipping” rock band turns out to in fact be worshiping Satan…things might go as expected. I always like a comic that ties in to my other passion, music, and this looks to be on par with some of the best. If you like This is Spinal Tap, this might be up your alley.

The Fuse #13 – Written by Antony Johnston; Art and Cover by Justin Greenwood

  • The third arc begins! This has been one of my favorite series this past year and it shows no sign of slowing down. This may be a fine jump-on point for new readers, but why not be safe and check out the previous issues anyway? You can find Vol. 1 The Russia Shift & Vol. 2 Gridlock in stores now.

John Flood John Flood 1#1 – Written by Justin Jordan; Art and Cover A by Jorge Coehlo; Variant Covers by Rob Guillory & Nick Pitarra

  • A man, having been awake for the last ten years, can no longer tell the difference between reality and a kind of dream state. Justin Jordan has had a string of successes lately, with Deep State, his Luthor Strode series, Spread, and Dead Body Road, and teamed with Coelho (Polarity, Sleepy Hollow) this looks to be their next hit.
