NYCC 2015: DC Comics’ 2016 GLC Reboot? Simon Baz Returns & Headlines Green Lantern: Edge Of Oblivion With John Stewart & Guy Gardner!

News, Top Story

New York Comic Con 2015 (NYCC 2015) was bereft of any real comic book news. We did have morsels, bit nothing earth-shattering. That said, I am stoked for the limited series that follows Green Lantern: Lost Army for DC Comics.

Writer Tom Taylor, of DC Comics’ Injustice: Gods Among Us and Marvel Comics’ Superior Iron Man, collaborates with artist Ethan Van Sciver, and cover artist Ivan Reis, for a limited series called Green Lantern: Edge of Oblivion.

UPDATE: Writer Tom Taylor confirmed on his Facebook account that the cover at the end of this piece is the variant cover for Green Lantern: Edge of Oblivion. As such, it is not clear if Ivan Reis is a regular cover artist for the series or just providing variant covers or just a variant for issue #1.

The mini-series takes up the threads of the cancelled Green Lantern: Lost Army series written by Cullen Bunn with artist Jesus Saiz. In Green Lantern: Lost Army we learned that the Green Lantern Corps has vanished from the core DC Comics universe leaving Hal Jordan as Green Lantern “Renegade” alone plus a de-powered Kyle Rayner in the critically adored Omega Men.

That left Guy Gardner and John Stewart headlining Green Lantern: Lost Army. Through that series we learned that the Green Lantern Corps (GLC) are in a previous time in the universe before ours prior to its destruction; hence “oblivion” in the title of the new series.

With the cover of Green Lantern: Edge of Oblivion we see Simon Baz return, with his gun, Guy Gardner shed his Red Lantern ring (he had been using both Red Lantern ring and Green Lantern ring in Green Lantern: Lost Army – see above image) and John Stewart seemingly unchanged. Oh, and Mogo too!

This series looks great, with a top creative team, taking up the threads from a creative team I adored on Green Lantern: Lost Army.

Looking good for 2016!
