DVD Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (The Complete First and Second Season & Cowabunga Christmas)

DVD Reviews, Reviews, Top Story

Every fresh generation of children get their own version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Whether it be a feature film or a TV show, Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael have been there for three decades in various forms. For the last few years they’ve been CGI on Nickelodeon. The series sticks to the original comic book series with a few changes in mutant madness. The show is about to enter its fifth season so for late comers or those who were born only a few years ago, it’s great to be able to catch the early seasons without relying on a faulty DVR. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Complete First and Second Season has all 52 episodes that take them from toxic tiny turtles to human shaped creatures learning Japanese fighting styles from a mutant rat named Spinter. The martial arts action scenes play well in the 3D CGI universe. They also look realistic when eating pizzas.

Here’s Josie’s review of the boxset:

You heard right that Teenage Mutant Ninja’s Cowabunga Christmas is also coming out. As you plan ahead for your holiday viewings, it’s good to know that reptiles can be represented during the season. The DVD contains “The Christmas Aliens,” “The Way of Invisibility” and “Fallen Angel.” These episodes are from the TMNT series that aired from 2003-2009. There are no bonus features on this DVD.

The video is 1.78:1 anamorphic. The transfers bring out Turtle action with the CGI filling the screen. The audio is Dolby Digital 5.1. The mix is fine for the level of action, dialogue and pizza munching. There’s also French and Spanish dub tracks. The episodes are Closed Captioned.

The Mutations of a Scene allows the producers to show off the process required to create the action. It’s not an easy process.

Channel Six News Report are the spots on “Creatures of the Night” and “Ooze-Gate 2014.”
