MST3K: Volume XXXIV is all about AIP in December

Disc Announcements, News

American International Pictures was the greatest independent film studio not because it made hit movies, but it created hit genres. Every few years, the executive producers would find a new genre to tap into for a series of films and a new galaxy of stars. They were the cutting edge of everything from Edgar Allan Poe to Beach Party to Bikers to Black Action to monsters. From the fifties to the end of the ’70s, they had their finger on the pulse of what people craved at the drive-in. The films were low budget, but had a good feel to the screen. Naturally a few of their early entries would end up on Mystery Science Theater 3000. Joel and the Bots had a field day with the movies that used to play on the Creature Double Feature when AIP dominated UHF programming. Mystery Science Theater 3000: Vol. XXXIV collects four times when the show dipped into the AIP catalog including two films directed by Roger Corman. The boxset arrives December 1. While Mystery Science Theater 3000 isn’t set a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, it is an epic tale of heroes and villains, two robot sidekicks, alien races and snappy one-liners. Joel and Mike, the unlucky witnesses to the cheesiest movies in any galaxy, may not have the force with them, but they have an even more powerful weapon — the riff! In the not too distant future, December 1st, 2015, join the rebel forces at Shout! Factory in the epic battle against four generally grievous movies from the galactic empire once known as American International Pictures.
