Lucha Underground luchadors Rey Mysterio, Johnny Mundo, and King Cuerno were on ESPN’s SportsCenter early this morning, accompanied by Melissa Santos and hosts Neil Everett and Stan Verrett You can check out a clip here and here on ESPN’s website.
“The excitement of the fans just make us give them everything,” said Mysterio. “We leave our [lives] on the line every night in that Temple.” For that reason – that wrestling can be very dangerous and is action-packed – it’s great that SportsCenter has added even more wrestling coverage in addition to WWE segments.
“I was born and raised here in Los Angeles. I’ve been waiting for a program like this forever,” Johnny Mundo added. “This is the first promotion coming out of Los Angeles in a very long time, and it’s something really special.”
True that. The cinematic style, supernatural elements, strong characters, and the uniqueness of the lucha libre/American pro-wrestling Mundo and Mysterio describe make Lucha Underground stand out from other promotions. When asked what makes Lucha Underground different from WWE, Mysterio said, “It’s a new era of wrestling.”
King Cuerno also received a positive reaction from the crowd as he discussed the significance and symbolism behind the luchador masks.
This segment couldn’t have come at a better time – Lucha Underground returns for Season 2 tonight at 8 P.M. EST, only on El Rey Network. Stay tuned tonight for live coverage.
