American International Pictures understood to have a writer of note to class up their drive-in movie flicks. They had scored a major success with their Edgar Allan Poe series when they went color. Murders in the Rue Morgue continued the Poe action with Jason Robards in a role usually reserved for Vincent Price. AIP also gave light to the demonic world of H.P. Lovecraft. The Dunwich Horror brings to life one of Lovecraft’s best loved tales. Dean Stockwell gives a performance that brings together his finer qualities seen in Blue Velvet and Quantum Leap. But when a madman with an axe to grind arrives on the scene, the stage is set for real mayhem and murder most foul. Will the backstage bloodshed be quelled – or is it curtains for the cast?
