Lucha Underground‘s Joey Ryan was recently featured online on Loverboy Magazine, a publication targeted towards the queer community – an awesome niche, since Ryan’s fanbase includes members of that culture. The interview includes everything from his famous Penis Flip move to his appearance on RuPaul’s Drag Race. You can check out a preview below!
Regarding the background and creation of his character, Ryan said: “I’d been wrestling for a few years and I decided to pattern myself after the wrestling era that got me hooked – the 80s. I adopted 80s icon Magnum PI’s look with the moustache, chest hair and floral print. But as cool as he was then, if Magnum PI walked around looking like that today, it may have come off a little sleazy.”
Ryan also mentioned his tag team partner in the indies, Candice LeRae. “A lot of my early outfits, my tag team partner, Candice LeRae actually made for me. She would find floral patterns and sew them into wrestling trunks for me. Now I just surf www.spandexworld.com and see what material catches my eye.” Yay! I’ve been wondering where I can get myself a Speedo. Although one made by Candice LaRae would be amazing.
