This week, rather than tackling “big news” or “current trends” we decided to take a more relaxed approach to the episode. We report on the passing of professional wrestler, Blackjack Mulligan(Robert Deroy Windham, aged 73). Blackjack is the father of wrestlers Barry and Kendall Windham, father-in-law of Mike Rotunda, and the paternal grandfather of Bray Wyatt and Bo Dallas.
We also report on the passing of country music legend, Merle Haggard(aged 79). Along with Buck Owens, Haggard and his band the Strangers helped create the Bakersfield sound, which is characterized by the twang of Fender Telecaster and the unique mix with the traditional country steel guitar sound, new vocal harmony styles in which the words are minimal, and a rough edge not heard on the more polished Nashville sound recordings of the same era.
And last, but certainly not least, Doug files another entry into the “Horrible Events in History” file with the, Mothman.
