Avengers Standoff has been interesting. It seems to set up a few news series that are part of the All-New All-Different Marvel branding (is Marvel still using that name):
- Thunderbolts (with the Winter Soldier at the helm)
- Captain America: Steve Rogers (with new costume, shield and raison d’etre)
And something, possibly, involving Citizen V, one of the few remaining All-New All-Different teaser images that have yet to manifest as a new series.
It also sets up the conclusion to Avengers Standoff in Avengers Standoff: Assault in Pleasant Hill Omega #1 which in turn sets up the world that Civil War II will inhabit.
The checklist of Avengers Standoff is below in case you’re interested in the books that lead up to the Omega issue.
Leading up it are some developments from Captain America: Sam Wilson #8!
Spoilers for Marvel Comics’ Captain America: Sam Wilson #8 follow.
The summary page to the issue and the first few pages explain what has happened in Avengers Standoff so far including how Steve Rogers has been de-aged.
SHIELD has done some bad things, by trying to dupe Marvel’s villains and its all coming home to roost. The veneer of Pleasant Hill has been ripped off and the “inmates” are angry!
There are also some interesting moments between former Captain America and now Winter Soldier, Bucky Barnes, and current Captain America, and former Falcon, Sam Wilson.
In the midst of that we get some humor amongst them and the original, now young and able, Steve Rogers who basically explains Sam Wilson’s role in the Marvel universe. This explains why Captain America: Steve Rogers #1 has Steve with a new shield.
And, the book ends with the set-up for Avengers Standoff: Assault on Pleasant Hill Omega #1 with the Avengers entering the fray!
Spoilers and preview for Avengers Standoff: Assault on Pleasant Hill Omega #1 follow.
Interesting times ahead as the pre Civil Wars II Marvel Comics and Avengers worlds are set-up!
