It’s a little odd to be doing a two part episode in the middle of the season, but Archer was never a show to toe the line when it comes to convention. This two-parter begins with Richard Shapiro, the manager of Veronica Dean, asking the gang to attend a gala to protect Veronica’s necklace which is worth millions. Sure enough, a crew of crazy evil clowns show up to steal the necklace.
Here are some thoughts.
1. Start with a bathroom joke
Apparently, somebody at the Figgis Agency has been doing something with the bathroom towels? I’m not sure, it’s not very clear. But starting with an apparent poop joke is always a solid bet.
2. Well, 5/8s of you
I don’t know why, but Archer often makes fraction jokes and every time it just cracks me up. This one in particular refers to the fact that 5 of the gang will go as party guests while the other 3 will go as waiters.
3. Did you catch that fundraiser?
Long time fans will get it.
4. Peterman!
As Ellis Crane, the movie producer who wants to put Lana in his next movie. Fans of Seinfeld will recognize the voice of J. Peterman, the wily owner of the company Elaine worked for.
5. “I fucked you on a blimp.”
This is what Cyril says to Cheryl when she insults him. That’s about as good a comeback as you could possibly give. And it happens to be true.
6. Archer and Veronica
Archer finally goes for it after the insane clown posse… I’m sorry, the criminal crew dressed as clowns takes the gala. I’m not really sure where him and Lana stand as far as romantics. I thought they were working towards staying together? This kind of refutes that I guess.
7. This is reminiscent of…
Seems like a deliberate comparison, no?
8. Gettin’ dark, Arch
He snaps the neck of one of the clown posse so he can dress up as them and infiltrate the crew. Not a bad plan, but he does it in front of Veronica and clearly doesn’t think twice about it. Maybe that’s a bad sign?
9. Oh, a new name for Che- I mean, Tanya
Cheryl has decided to change her name to Tanya (pronounced TAN-ya) to try and woo the leader of the crew? Not to try and trick him, he just turns her on. I don’t know, she’s weird. But she was due for a name change.
10. This should be interesting
This sets up the next episode, which should be a real romp. Looking forward to some intense action.
