Spoilers and review follow for Action Comics #52’s part of the “Final Days of Superman” aka “Super-League” arc.
Be warned, the brand new cover to DC Rebirth’s Superwoman #1 appears to actually spoil the end of this final New 52 Superman arc. You have been warned! Avoid August 2016 DC Comics Rebirth solicitations if wish!
Anyhow, this arc is the New 52 Superman’s swan song; he’s to be replaced by the pre-Flashpoint Superman, his wife Lois Lane and son Jonathan, as THE Superman Family (again) of DC Comics.
The book begins with the New 52 Lois Lane being confronted by the fiery Superman fraud.
Who takes her to the reveal we’ve been waiting for since Convergence; a big part of this issue is the reintroduction of the pre-Flashpoint Superman and his family after they emerged during and stayed after Convergence.
The fiery deluded “Superman” confronts the classic Superman and his family.
And, its creepy. Firey Supes brings classic and soon to be DC Rebirth’s Superman into the adventure.
Despite that, Superman can’t help but think of his family.
The New 52 Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman arrive as they’ve been following the fiery Superman and the New 52 Superman and the classic Superman meet.
It’s a short lived meeting as the pre-Flashpoint Superman bails on the New 52’s trinity to save his wife and son.
That leaves the New 52 Trinity, with its weakened and dying Superman, to take on this fiery Superman fraud.
Overall, big movement on the set up for DC Comics Rebirth’s “new” (yet old) Superman. No really movement on the New Super-Man or Superwoman fronts, but 2 issues to this arc left.
