Spoilers and review for Superman #52 follow which is the finale of the “Final Days of Superman” aka “Super-League” arc.
The New 52 Superman is dying and taking on the electric evil crazy Superman. The New 52 Superman knows the world will need a Superman when he’s gone so slugs the pre-Flashpoint Superman, who will be DC Rebirth’s primary Superman, out of the battle.
And, then the New 52 Superman and the electric Superman… explode.
The soon-to-be DC Rebirth Superman recovers the New 52 Superman’s body. He’s alive, but is clearly in his last moments.
The New 52 Superman is comforted and supported by Batman and Wonder Woman; he says his good-byes with Lana Lang…
…then a good bye for Lois Lane. It appears the New 52 Lois Lane will become Superwoman and the New 52 Lana Lang will be part of that DC Rebirth book’s cast.
Then he has emotional good-byes with Batman and Wonder Woman.
Before he seemingly dies turned into… something else.
The book ends with the characters, including villains, who were a big part of the beginning and end of the New 52 Superman’s publishing run hearing news of his death.
The book’s last page shows the New 52 Lois Lane’s glorifying article of the New 52 Superman. A fitting end and redemption for the woman who outed the New 52 Superman as Clark Kent.
This arc has been the best New 52 Superman story in any Superman family title. Its has the emotion, drama, action, suspense and more.
Peter J. Tomasi also writing the bi-weekly Superman series in DC Rebirth should be a must read. He clearly “gets” Superman.
What’s next? Well, we also had the end to the Superman: Lois and Clark mini-series as well.
Spoilers and review for Superman: Lois and Clark #8 follow.
While Superman #52 sets up Peter J. Tomasi’s Superman DC Rebirth bi-weekly series, I had thought writer Dan Jurgens’ Lois and Clark mini-series would be setting up his Action Comics DC Comics Rebirth bi-weekly series…
…however, it seems to set up the Super Sons monthly DC Rebirth series with Jon Kent getting papa’s cape. If this is the pre-Flashpoint cape, it should indestructible.
I had thought that DC Universe: Rebirth #1 would move the Superman Rebirth narrative further, but…
Spoilers and review for DC Universe: Rebirth #1 follow.
… it didn’t.
In fact, the Superman Rebirth pieces of DC Universe: Rebirth #1 were so benign they were revealed as part of DC Comics’ massive preview to the issue.
Including the return of a Mr. Oz.
Well, this week we have Superman: Rebirth #1 hit stands. There is sure to be more there. Right? Comic Vine also has the Superman: Rebirth #1 have the preview pages. And, it looks like the pre-Flashpoint Superman appears to believe that the New 52 Superman will rise from the dead as the pre-Flashpoint Supes did after being killed by Doomsday in the Death and Return of Superman storyline.
Spoilers follow for Superman: Rebirth #1!
With that, we know that the end of Superman: Lois and Clark #8 and Superman #52 set up DC Comics Rebirth’s Super Sons series.
We already know how the Chinese New Super-Man got his powers from the Last Days of Superman arc that preceded DC Universe: Rebirth #1.
However, we still don’t know how the New 52 Lois Lane becomes Superwoman.
More coming this week on the DC Comics Rebirth plan for the Superman family.
I imagine that will be set up in Superman: Rebirth #1.
