WWE 2K17: Bill Goldberg Hyped As Pre-order Bonus In Teaser Trailer

Media, News, Trailers

Much like EA Sports and NFL football, if you want a WWE wrestling simulation the only game in town is 2K Sports. The developers behind Bioshock, Borderlands, and the best-selling NBA 2K game series acquired the WWE license after previous developer THQ filed for bankruptcy. Every fall since 2013 there has been a new WWE 2K installment. Personalities such as The Rock, John Cena and Steve Austin have graced the cover. In WWE 2K15 2K introduced a “2K Showcase” allowing fans to relive the rivalries of John Cena vs. CM Punk and Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels in a new single player campaign told through your gameplay and historic WWE footage. WWE 2K16 featured the biggest roster in a WWE video game and its Showcase feature highlighted the WWF/E career of Steve Austin.

Now it looks like we may have an idea of the direction 2K Games is going with WWE 2K17. The teaser below (and which played during the Memorial Day edition of Raw) features a personality that made his name in Atlanta before the company was bought out by World Wrestling Entertainment. Of course, I mean Bill Goldberg and World Championship Wrestling (WCW).

Not only do you get WCW Goldberg (black tights) and WWE Goldberg (black and white shorts) when you pre-order the game, according to 2K Games you also get two playable arenas: WCW Monday Nitro and Halloween Havoc.

Early speculation is that 2K will have the Showcase feature be about Goldberg’s impressive win streak in WCW. I don’t see this happening as it would involve incorporating several wrestlers and environments we’ve never seen in a WWE game.

Assuming Goldberg is just a playable bonus character (a la Arnold Schwarzenegger) what would you like to see in the next installment in the WWE 2K series? Post desired wrestlers/rosters and match types in the comments section.

WWE 2K17 will arrive for PlayStation 3, XBOX 360, PlayStation 4 and XBOX One this October.
