Lots of All-Star Batman #1 exclusive variants for this including the below two by Michael Turner and Tyler Kirkham.
On top of the regular cover for the issue.
DC Comics Rebirth’s All-Star Batman #1 spoilers and review follow!
The main story by writer Scott Snyder and artist John Romita Jr. focuses on Batman and Two-Face. Batman is taking him to prison in stealth via his bat-jet / plane, but Two-Face has a stunning public offer!
He will reveal the dark secrets he has on so many people if they don’t down the bat-jet / plane and free Two-Face or if they do help Two-Face out they get cash, lots of cash. And, to Batman’s surprise someone immediately downs the plane!
Batman and Two-Face were downed in a corn field it seems. And, the Black Spider is after Batman…
…but he’s subdued. Then local regular townsfolk are after Batman, seeing needed dollar signs in their eyes…
…to Two-Face’s delight!
Batman is seemingly taken out by one of the townsfolk, but…
…while Batman undercover recaptures Two-Face we also learn who shot down the plane…
…Alfred Pennyworth! What secret does Two Face have on him that he does not want revealed?
And, who is after Batman and Two-Face now…
…Hawkman foil the Gentleman Ghost!
In the back-up story by writer Scott Snyder and artist Declan Shalvey, called Cursed Wheel, we learn a former Batman partner / sidekick became a villain and its not Jason Todd the Red Hood. Who could it be?
We also see Batman and Duke Thomas in-costume throughout the back-up going after a threat with big B.
We don’t know Duke Thomas’ nom du guerre yet, but we know he is NOT Robin!
Citizens seem to be mysteriously bleeding out leading to…
A chilling cliffhanger!
So…
The opening “offer” story is strong on story and art. Why did Alfred betray Batman will be a compelling mystery while Batman travels with Two-Face! Not a fan of the art in the back-up story, but am glad we’ll be seeing Duke Thomas evolution in the pages of All-Star Batman.
BTW, how gorgeous is the below All-Star Batman #1 variant cover by Lee Bermejo?
However, is the 10 extra pages for All-Star Batman #1 worth an extra $2.00 making the book $4.99? Hmmmm. I’m not so sure.
