Spoilers follow for upcoming TNA Impact Wrestling!
Over the weekend TNA taped several weeks of Impact Wrestling up to early September 2016. During the tapings (spoilers here) it was revealed that current TNA World Heavyweight Champion, X-Division Champion and King of the Mountain Champion Bobby Lashley had the King of the Mountain strap retired and the X-division title was vacated culminating in a contest to crown a new X-division champion.
Bobby Lashley retains the TNA World Heavyweight Championship and TNA retains the storied X-Division Championship while the Kind of the Mountain Championship morphs into something else yet again.
Here’s the titles that preceded the KOTM championnship at TNA plus what the new championship is called:
- TNA Legends Championship: 2008–2009
- TNA Global Championship: 2009–2010
- TNA Television Championship: 2010–2014
- TNA King of the Mountain Championship: 2015–2016
- TNA Grand Championship: 2016 – current
Images have surfaced of the new TNA Grand Championship which will be fought under interesting rules: three three-minute matches and if there is no decisive winner a panel of judges will make the call.
Although, it looks like despite the new championship belt being called the TNA Grand Championship title, TNA had toyed with the idea of calling it the TNA World Championship from an earlier design by Wildcat belts that’s leaked online of the strap.
What do you think about TNA’s new championship and strap?
