The first weekend of September 2016 was a HUGE weekend for comic book and pop culture fans with both Fan Expo Canada happening in Toronto and the Baltimore Comic Con going on at the same time. Plus, there was the Diamond Retailer summit to open the weekend which is also a hot bed of comics and pop culture news! Lastly, Star Trek: Mission New York happened! Wow! Star Trek Discovery launches in January 2017 and it looks there will novels from Simon & Shuster plus comic books timed to the release! Check out the news!
- As announced at Star Trek’s 50th anniversary convention, Mission New York, the new Star Trek: Discovery TV series will launch fans into uncharted territory with a series of companion books and comics.
Kirsten Beyer, a writer and producer on Discovery, revealed during a panel that CBS is working with Simon & Schuster and IDW Publishing to publish these works. Also a writer behind the Star Trek: Voyager novels, Beyer said she’ll be working with David Mack of the Star Trek: Destiny books and Mike Johnson, who wrote the Star Trek Beyond sequel comic, Star Trek: Boldly Go.
Details on the stories are still unknown, but their releases will be timed to the show’s premiere this January on the streaming service CBS All Access.
