DC Comics Rebirth Spoilers: Fall & Rise Of Captain Atom #3 Reveals Captain Atom’s New Powers & Interim Costume On Road To The Watchmen Rebirth?

Spoilers, Top Story

DC Comics Rebirth Spoilers for the Fall & Rise Of Captain Atom #3 follow.

We know that as part of the Fall and Rise of Captain Atom mini-series Captain Atom will get new powers and a new costume that will look like this.

It has been speculated that the reason for this change is that with Dr. Manhattan and the Watchmen are set to star in a mini-series / event in 2017 vs or with or something else involving the heroes and reality of the DC Rebirth. As such DC wanted to visually make Captain Atom dissimilar from Dr. Manhattan; interestingly Dr. Manhttan was based on Captain Atom.

I imagine Captain Atom will have a key role in that event as a dream match-up for fans are the Watchmen vs. the Charlton “action heroes” they are based on.

>> Watchmen.

>> Charlton action heroes now owned by DC Comics.

With that said, we also know that at the end of Fall and Rise of Captain Atom there may be two Captain Atoms or perhaps Dr. Manhattan’s pre-event debut? Red and blue Captain Atoms? Hopefully only red emerges from this ready to take on the Watchmen and Dr. Manhattan later in 2017.

With that context, the Fall and Rise of Captain Atom #3 landed on shelves this week.

Captain Atom, a.k.a. Nathanial Adam, is back in the present after being trapped in 1990s for a few years, getting married and having a super-power free life. A big quantum explosion happened at the end of the last issue thrusting Captain Atom from the 1990s to 2017.

In 2017 he is greeted by a probe operated by Dr. Megala who explains what has happened to him; Captain Atom is now accessing the red quantum band, is likely more powerful than before and more stable too.

We also learn how the world perceives Captain Atom after the explosion of the 1990s, that sent him to 2017, where at least 3 people lost their lives. He is perceived to be a criminal perhaps even a terrorist.

General Eiling has a plan; under Project Resurgence Captain Atom will debut as a new hero named Cameron Scott and he’ll work for Eiling; a puppet hero. If not, many heroes would be after Captain Atom if they knew Nathaniel Adam was back after the devastation his departure from the 1990s caused. General Eiling will give me a fancy new home as part of the deal too.

Captain Atom accepts the deal grudgingly for now.

With that, General Eiling and Dr. Megala test his powers. He has super-strength, super-speed and more precision with the use of his more stable quantum powers.

Captain Atom now wants out of the deal with Eiling; he may have only agreed to it to have his powers tested in my view. General Eiling reminds him how the world and its heroes will perceive his return due to the death his departure of the 1990s caused.

Captain Atom heads back to the home that General Eiling furnished him as part of their Project Resurgence deal.

A door knock and mysterious slip of information later, Captain Atom learns he has a teenage son after learning earlier in the issue his wife from the 1990s Dr. Sato had died.

Many speculated that he would have a child, as Dr. Sato was pregnant and was ready to tell Captain Atom last issue, but before she could he was pulled back to 2017.

The speculation centered around former pre-Flashpoint Teen Titan Amy Allen a.k.a. Bombshell.

However, in DC Rebirth Captain Atom has a son not a daughter; plus Bombshell was not his daughter in the old continuity either. We may yet still see a female, non-familial, Bombshell in this mini-series.

A fun issue.
