7 new books this week. Surprisingly no Valiant, Aftershock or Marvel this week, just DC.

  • Suicide Squad #16
  • Teen Titans #7

James Fulton

  • Aliens: Dead Orbit #1 – Okay, I’d much prefer James Stokoe return to his Orc Stain project, but if he’s not going to do that, I love seeing him work on properties that work with his hyper-detailed style. His Godzilla was great, but Aliens is a property I can sink my teeth into. (It’s cool that this comes out the same week as a new issue of Brian Wood’s incredible Aliens: Defiance series).
  • Bitch Planet #10 – It’s been way too long. I’m happy to see this returning.
  • Black Monday Murders #5 – I feel like Jonathan Hickman’s book about financial cabals, secret societies, and money magic is more prescient than it seemed when it launched.
  • Black Panther #13 – Ta-Nehisi Coates launches his ‘second season’ with the Panther with this issue, and that makes me very happy. I think we’ll see a good amount of Kasper Cole in this one, which makes it even better.
  • Pitiful Human-Lizard #12 – I’m always going to come out to support this excellent local comic book. I love the way Jason Loo keeps building his comic universe with this series.

  • X-MEN: BLUE #2, X-MEN: GOLD #2, WEAPON X #2 – ResurrXion is off to a strong start.  Kudos to Marvel.  It’s been a long time since I have been this excited about the X-Men books, but if this is any indication of what we can expect from ResurrXion, I would be very happy.
  • X-O MANOWAR #2 – I know it’s because I had an early preview, but it feels like it’s been forever since issue 1 came out.  Absolutely loved the relaunch of X-O.  Valiant continues to impress me with the expansion of their universe.
  • MAN-THING #3 – Issue 2 got a little weird at times, seeming to switch locations at will, and it was a bit hard to follow at times.  That said, each issue has had an awesome backup story in the vein of old EC horror comics.  For me, that makes this worth a purchase any way.
  • BEN REILLY THE SCARLET SPIDER #1 – While I don’t like how Marvel has turned Ben Reilly into what feels like an unredeemable asshole, I love the creative team on this book with Peter David and Mark Bagley.  Peter David was my first favorite comic writer, and Mark Bagley was my first favorite comic artist.  So this is definitely a dream book for me.  And if anyone can make this concept work, it’s Peter David.
  • FLASH #21 – The Button continues!  I am actually a little behind on my new comic reading, but I have been looking forward to The Button for a while. DC Rebirth has been hinting at the bigger picture for a long time, and I really want to see how this all plays out.
