Fargo gets Steelbook Blu-ray release for 20th Anniversary

Disc Announcements, News

Has it really been 20 years since Fargo brought a Minnesota ice cold to cinemas? The Oscar winning film from the Coen Brothers became a massive hit with its tale of a man who has his wife kidnapped so the ransom can fund his dream project. But of course everything goes wrong. The film takes place in the heart of winter. When Fargo was released in the age of 35mm projectors, the film was an easy way to spot the level of dirtiness of your local theater’s screen. Now the film is getting a special Steelbook Blu-ray release on August 8 as part of the Shout Select line. Here’s the press release from Shout! Factory:

FARGO (20TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION STEELBOOK)
LIMITED EDITION SET TO BE RELEASED
BY SHOUT! FACTORY ON AUGUST 8, 2017

Los Angeles, CA – Shout! Factory’s new line for cinephiles, Shout Select, will release Fargo (20th Anniversary Edition Steelbook) on August 8, 2017, and it is available now for pre-order.

Customers ordering from Shout! will receive a free limited edition poster (while supplies last), and will receive their copies two weeks early.

Limited to 10,000 copies, this collector must-have offers enticing packaging, an audio commentary with director of photography Roger A. Deakins, the “Minnesota Nice” featurette, an interview with the Coen Brothers and Frances McDormand, an American Cinematography article, an original advertising gallery, and a still photo gallery.

In this seven-time Oscar®-nominated film*, things go terribly awry when small-time Minnesota car salesman Jerry Lundegaard (William H. Macy) hires two thugs (Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare) to kidnap his wife so he can collect the ransom from his wealthy father-in-law. Once people start dying, the very chipper and very pregnant Police Chief Marge Gunderson (Frances McDormand) takes the case. Is she up for this challenge? You betcha.

Shout Select, aiming to shine a spotlight on the essentials in film, debuted in 2016 and includes titles such as Blake Edwards’ The Pink Panther Film Collection Starring Peter Sellers, Colors [Collector’s Edition], Bill & Ted’s Most Excellent Collection, Red Dawn [Collector’s Edition], and The Handmaid’s Tale.
