Marvel Comics Legacy Spoilers and Review follow for Astonishing X-Men #1.

Nice to see classic Jim Lee art as a variant.

The book opens with a physic attack on Earth.

Through that simultaneous attack, by a mysterious villain for now, we see where the various soon-to-be-members of the Astonishing X-Men are.

From the cover we know that the team will include:

    • Old Man Logan / Wolverine
    • Bishop
    • Gambit
    • Archangel
    • Psylocke
    • Mystique
    • Rogue
    • Fantomex

Although in this issue we don’t see Mystique, but Beast does pop up.

Plus we know who that mysterious physic villain of the issue from the variant cover…

…classic X-villain the Shadow King!

Anyhow, the book opens with looks at where each Astonishing X-Men soon-to-be-team-members are including…

…Bishop in England and…

…Gambit in France.

Psylocke reveals to the team that the Shadow King is back and attacking psyhics so we cam somehow escape the astral plane.

Most of the team will be sent over to do battle with the Shadow King on the astral plane and…

…he knows it.

We also learn he has several characters, heroes or villains, trapped in the astral plan including…

…Charles Xavier?

It sure looks like Professor X is alive again!

That return certainly feels like it delivers on the implied promise to readers with Marvel publishing initiatives called ResurrXion and Marvel Legacy!

Looks like Marvel is starting on the return of 30 characters and classic Marvel artifacts in this series.

So…

Amazing story by Charles Soule and pencils by Jim Cheung. Fast paced and fun issue. 8 out of 10.
