SDCC 2017 and DC Comics Rebirth Spoilers for DC’s Young Animal follows.

During Friday’s DC’s Young Animal from DC Comics Rebirth at San Diego Comic Con 2017 (SDCC 2017), Young Animal Showrunner and writer Gerard Way built on the earlier SDCC announcement about big changes coming to the imprint. The highlights are below.

    • Shade: The Changing Girl, Cave Carson Has A Cyberntic Eye and Mother Panic will go on hiatus from October to January leaving just Doom Patrol.
    • In January, there will be four Doom Patrol specials with the first being Doom Patrol / Justice League which is co-written by Gerard Way and Steve Orlando with art by Aco. The cover of that book features Frank Quitely art of a new character called Milkman Man (see below).
    • Gerard Way elaborated and noted the upcoming crossover between DC’s Young Animal and DC Comics Rebirth proper will address how Young Animal |fits with the entire DC Universe”, but Way noted the imprint’s book will remain “on the fringe.”

DC Comics also issued a news release around the panel.

…during DC’s Young Animal panel, imprint curator Gerard Way made comic dreams come true by announcing that the weird and eccentric characters of Young Animal will encounter the iconic Super Heroes of the DC Universe. In January 2018, the four ongoing series – DOOM PATROL, SHADE, THE CHANGING GIRL, CAVE CARSON HAS A CYBERNETIC EYE, MOTHER PANIC – will participate in a special four-part annual crossover.

These annuals will mark the conclusion of the first phase of the imprint and will send each series in surprising new directions!

Fans attending the panel were elated to be treated to a first look of DOOM PATROL SPECIAL featuring the JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA. This issue will be co-written by Way and Steve Orlando with illustrations by ACO and cover art by Frank Quitely. More details on the other annuals will be shared in the coming months.
