DVD Review: Paw Patrol, Blaze and the Monster Machines & Shimmer and Shine

DVD Reviews, Reviews, Top Story

With new season of school back, parents might want to upgrade the DVDs in the minivan for those upcoming hours stuck in the carpool lane. Nickelodeon has three new collections of their major hits. Paw Patrol: The Great Pirate Rescue, Shimmer and Shine: Magical Pets of Zahramay Falls and Blaze and the Monster Machines: Wild Wheels Escape to Animal Island should entertain any kids stuck in the rear seats as the cars creep along.

Paw Patrol: The Great Pirate Rescue allows the dogs that have emergency skills and vehicles to shine in a world of scallywags and buccaneers on the beaches and oceans. There’s quite a few maps and buried treasures. Let’s face it, dogs like to dig for a treat in the dirt. The episodes on the collection include “Pups and the Pirate Treasure,” “Pups and the Ghost Pirate,” “Pups Save the Bay,” “Pups Save a Goodway,” Pups Save a Pool Day” and “Circus Pup-Fomers.” It’s a fine collection that focuses on cooperation to save the day and those endangered.

Shimmer and Shine: Magical Pets of Zahramay Falls focuses on the animals owned by the littlest genies. The pets add a lot to the stories that have catchy songs. There’s even a pet talent show in “Untamed Talent.” Who shall rule the judges with their animal magnetism? The other episodes are “Pet Bedroom,” “Zany Ziffilon,” “Now You See Her,” “Dragon Pox,” “Bungle in the Jungle,” “Potion Control” and “Boom Zahra-Mom.” If your kid is asking about a pet, these episodes will help them decide what sort of animal to get.

Blaze and the Monster Machines: Wild Wheels Escape to Animal Island takes the jacked up truck to a world where the animals in the jungle are part automotive. Even the monkeys are cars. There’s four creature centric episodes including “Animal Island,” “Toucan Do It,” “The Big Ant-Venture” and “Falcon Quest.” It’s interesting to guess if the animals in each episode are creatures or mechanical.

None of the three DVDs have bonus features outside of being able to visit the Nick Jr website for various handouts and receive other activities. Here is Josie’s review of the collections:
