What was Sheldon Cooper like as a child?

While Jim Parsons’ character has always referenced the problems that he has faced as a child, a new prequel to The Big Bang Theory is ready to delve into his past in detail.

Young Sheldon tells the story of 9-year old Sheldon Cooper. Think of it as seeing how Sheldon Cooper became the Sheldon Cooper that we have grown to love on the hit CBS comedy. The series follows the character’s journey as his amazing mind for advanced mathematics is first discovered and how his family deals with his genius.

The show stars Iain Armitage (Big Little Lies) as the title character alongside Zoe Perry, Lance Barber and Raegan Revord. Jim Parsons is the narrator of the series and that gives the show a very The Wonder Years feel.

At CTV’s 2017 upfront presentation, I caught up with Young Sheldon’s Zoe Perry. We chatted about a variety of subjects including the buzz that the prequel to The Big Bang Theory has received and the pressure to match its ratings success. We also talked about how she will play a younger version of her real-life mother who plays the same Mary Cooper character on The Big Bang Theory and what that is like.

Young Sheldon premieres Monday September 25 at 8:30 p.m. on CTV.
