Blu-ray Review – Lethal Weapon (Season 1)

Blu-ray Reviews, Reviews, Top Story

If Lethal Weapon, the TV show, had a different name and so did its main characters it wouldn’t be nearly as obnoxious a show on the face. Riggs and Murtaugh stuck in the middle of various shenanigans for an hour a week feels wrong because they’re genuinely iconic characters played by two legendary actors. Damon Wayans and Clayne Crawford are stepping into roles that have been genuinely defined over four films in a quasi-reboot of the franchise.

It’s the same setup as the film. Riggs (Crawford) is a recent widower who’s moved to LA to join their robbery/homicide division. His new partner (Wayans) is still “too old for this.” Every week they solve crimes. He’s too old for this, especially after a heart attack, and Riggs is always seemingly trying to find some new way to escape some suicidal moment.

If this wasn’t a show about Riggs and Murtaugh, and was instead a generic buddy cop show, there wouldn’t be a bad vibe coming from it. It’s actually a genuinely intriguing and interesting show. It’s just if it was called something else besides Lethal Weapon it’d feel like something more interesting.

There’s an extended version of the pilot, which is also “uncensored,” with the usual EPK pieces included.
