“Justice League: No Justice”

Welcome to the column where we talk about anything that happens

Recently DC revealed their plans for the new 4 issue weekly Justice League “mini event” which will leads to four Justice League teams based on skill. That series is called Justice League: No Justice.

I wanted to breakdown this new development and give my opinion about it.

Status Quo

This is DC’s plans for the entire league after the multiverse shattering metal event. There will be a weekly series throughout may which is titled No justice. While the landscape post the weekly series is still unclear, these teams seem set to stay with new justice league books with the current books like Justice League and JLA set to end. No word on how the teen titans will be affected .

Premise

The weekly series will be written by Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, and Joshua Williamson  and illustrated by francis manapaul. After this, the flagship title will be written by Scott Snyder, though Tynion and Williamson will also be writing something new.

The plot of ‘No Justice’ sees Brainiac warn the Justice League about a cosmic-level threat on the way to destroy Earth. When the heroes find out that even the combined might of the Justice League (including some unlikely new recruits) isn’t enough to stop it, Brainiac advises them with a plan. His strategy involves the heroes allying with villains and splitting up into four specialized teams. The fate of a different alien world depends on the success of each team, but if they fail, it’s game over not just for Earth but the entire DC Universe.

Team Mystery

Team Mystery: Martian Manhunter, Sinestro, Superman, Starfire and Starro

This lineup is truly a mystery and I have no idead what or how Sinestro and Starro will play into this. I am just glad to have the Martian Manhunter back. He has been gone too long and I am just happy to have him back. Another notable fact is they are all aliens which seems to be the basis of this group.

Team Entropy

Team Entropy: Lobo, Lex Luthor, Beast Boy, Batman and Deathstroke

Three master strategists, two of the most intelligent people in the world, a changeling and an unkillable alien comprises this team which seems true to its name for having a lack of predictability or order. This seems the most challenging group of all as again I have no idea why they are actually together. Beast boy seems so different from the rest of them and it will be quite interesting to see who takes up command as Bats will surely be challenged by Lex and Slade.

Team Wonder

Team Wonder: Raven, Doctor Fate, Zatanna, Wonder Woman and Etrigan the Demon

At least here we have some clear idea about who will be the leader. Wonder Woman is the clear cut leader of this group of team who all are mystics in some way or another. This team seems to full of magic using superheroes. Zatanna being in the League is a very welcome addition along with Fate. Zatanna has been seen in a few arcs since rebirth but nothing substantial and hope this turns out to be bigger for her. The dynamic should be great considering Etrigan and Raven being present.

Team Wisdom

Team Wisdom: Cyborg, Harley Quinn, Atom, The Flash and Robin (specified as Damian Wayne).

With the exception of Harley, most of the team members are intellectually gifted in various ways. Even Harley is psychologically gifted to an extent. It is about time Barry starts to lead a team and this gives him the exact opportunity to do that. Damian will be a strict opposition, but the Flash can handle it. I am also intrigued by Harley being on the team; has she been released from the Suicide Squad? We will get answers soon.

Who are missing?

Well, the Green Lanterns are nowhere to be seen, even Jessica and Simon who have been part of the team since Rebirth. From JLA, we have two disappointing removals of Black Canary and Vixen which is really a shame. The Ray seems to settle into his home while the status of Killer Frost is unknown. Kid Flash is also missing. Also looks like they have other plans for Shazam as he is also nowhere to be seen. Also Aquaman and Mera seem to be missing, though that could be due to recent events in his solo series. While it is well and good to see the Teen Titans getting up and well with the Justice League, one has to wonder why they seem to leave the original Teen Titans, the Titans, out of the spotlight. They have the expertise and the power to handle this, but are constantly mishandled. I hope they have big plans for them soon.

I’m laying out the biggest action of my life,” artist Francis Manapul said in a statement. “The Justice League realizes that they need to expand their reach to become something bigger than they have ever been before. If you thought my work for Justice League: Darkseid War was huge, I’m taking the League to the edge of the cosmos with ‘No Justice.’ Anyone who has asked for Harley Quinn, Martian Manhunter, Starfire, Zatanna, The Atom, Raven, or Doctor Fate to be in their personal Justice League will stand up and cheer.

That is it for this installment and I think this is a really good development as a whole as the Justice League title has been lacking in some respects and it is good to see DC making plans to make them the flagship title once more.
