With more than 40 million views, Kung Fury was a Kickstarter-backed short that gained a massive following and was even selected for Cannes Directors Fortnight in 2015. Now it is getting a feature-length sequel with Michael Fassbender as its lead.
If you’re not familiar with Kung Fury, imagine an ’80s-stylized action-comedy that would have proliferated mom-and-pop video stores or have been broadcast either on HBO late at night or as part of USA’s “Up All Night” starring Rhonda Shear. Featuring a theme song (“True Survivor”) sung by David Hasselhoff, who will also appear alongside Fassbender, Kung Fury starred the titular hero and proclaimed “greatest damn cop of all time.” His beat was Miami, circa 1985, and as leader of the Thundercops, Fury travels space and time to save fellow officers against the villainous Kung Fuhrer, Adolf Hitler.
Hold on – Kung Fu, Hitler, and Fassbender? Um, yes, please.
