There just aren’t enough good pimp comedies in the world. This makes sense since mostly they are horrible people that control women and intimidate men. They don’t care who they cut to get their money. There’s not too comic pimp moments in HBO’s The Deuce. But Dan Aykroyd figured out a way to make us laugh at the pimp gang with Doctor Detroit. The film was Aykroyd’s first big screen attempt to work without John Belushi. He pulls off being both a meek professor and an outrageous pimp. The film is finally getting a Blu-ray release with plenty of bonus feature on April 24 as part of the Shout Select collection. Here’s the press release from Shout Factory:

In need of a patsy until the heat dies down, Smooth hits paydirt with mild-mannered professor Clifford Skridlow (Aykroyd) — and promptly skips town, leaving his bevy of sexy “employees” in Clifford’s hapless hands. Charmed by the ladies and spurred by his dedication to chivalry, Clifford agrees to become their protector and ally, transforming himself from a power-walking professor to a heroic hustler … and throwing down the gauntlet to save his college from financial ruin and the four damsels from the wrath of Mom!
