How to get the most of a movie property in brick-and-mortar stores? That’s easy: Repackaging. The collector mentality of some cinephiles will have them buy a movie based on the packaging alone – even if they already own the title!
With news that both Best Buy and Walmart are putting “maximum effort” in promoting the release of Deadpool 2 in theaters with collectible packaging, I’m sure die-hard fans and movie collectors were pleased to know that the Merc with a Mouth is celebrating his two-year anniversary.
Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release the Deadpool: Two Year Anniversary Edition Blu-ray on April 24. It will feature “all-new collectible packaging and an assortment of limited edition party favors that includes stickers, car decals, temporary tattoos and a set of paper dolls.”
Best Buy is dropping a two year anniversary edition 4K UHD Steelbook and its own assortment of party favors.
May 15 at Walmart, a number of Fox favorites on Blu-ray will get all-new cover art with the Merc photobombing the likes of Edward Scissorhands, Logan, Predator, and Revenge of the Nerds among others. (Of those titles I’m curious what Deadpool on a Logan cover would look like.)
