Welcome to Image Rundown!

Here’s a quick look at everything Image Comics is releasing this week, with highlights and quick reviews for new series and collected editions as well as good jumping-on points for new readers. Let’s get started!

New Series and Arcs

Deadly Class #34 – This is an arc finale, but I mostly mention it for last week’s trailer and behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming Syfy series. I personally stopped reading the series after the third arc but try to keep up with what’s going on and I hear a lot of fans still dig it. That said, I thought the trailer underplayed the “assassin school” aspect, which seems to me pretty essential. I am interested to see if the show will follow the comic directly or expand on the world. The premiere is set for next year, let’s get together and compare notes then.

Skyward #2 – The first issue offered an interesting look into a world I imagine we’ll be building on for a while. And given that the main idea behind the story is that the gravity of Earth just stopped one day and a lead character may know why, there will probably be a lot of science coming our way, too. The series is off to a great start, I recommend checking it out if your shop still has it (or if they got the second printing also out today.)

Continuing Series

  • Barrier #4
  • The Beef #4 – Part 4 of 5, collected edition due out in July 18th.
  • Days of Hate #5
  • Elsewhere #7 – Every issue gets more interesting, I think we’re in for some pretty cool stuff soon.
  • The Further Adventures of Nick Wilson #5 – Series finale, TPB due out July 25th.
  • Gasolina #8
  • Hit-Girl #4
  • Manifest Destiny #35
  • Regression #10 – Second arc finale!

Collected Editions

Redneck Vol. 02 – Things get interesting for the family as they deal with the fallout from the first arc, and by “interesting” I mean “worse very quickly”. Some family members are not what they seem, and we get some background into Phil and Evil (two of my favorite characters from the series.)

Sacred Creatures Vol. 01 – From comics legends Klaus Janson and Pablo Raimondi in their first creator-owned series! A young family man faces threats as old as time itself.

Snotgirl Vol. 02 – “California Screaming”! The comic world’s favorite fashion blogger is back, from Bryan Lee O’Malley and Leslie Hung.

No quick reviews this week, but if you’re looking for more recommendations, find me on Twitter and Tumblr.

Happy reading, everyone, and see you next week!

Phil started reading comics in 2008, and it has been his passion since. Enjoying titles ranging from Batman to Sex Criminals, Y: The Last Man to Samurai Jack, and The Wicked + The Divine to 100 Bullets, Phil will read just about anything. Have a recommendation?
