“BatCat Wedding”

Welcome to The Column where we talk about the long awaited wedding of Batman and Catwoman in The DC Universe.

Batman and Catwoman are getting Married.

We all know that. Tom King has been writing an amazing epic run of Batman where he has epitomized what makes Batman… uh Batman and how Catwoman is the only person who truly understands him. He has really written a poetic journey between the two about how perfect the two of them are for each other and how they need each other.

Simply put, when Batman falls, Catwoman catches him and when Catwoman falls, Batman catches her.

There have been instances where it has been felt where the wedding may just not take place and that it was all a fake-out. It is more evident from the fact that Catwoman #1 directly follows on from Batman #50 in a separate direction and also with the ending of last issue of Batman where Selina has a heart to heart with the Joker of all people.

Will Batman and Catwoman actually go through it? There is no real way of knowing at the moment, but I for one am hugely excited for that and it would be a tad bit disappointing if they do not go through with it.

Also the wedding has a huge amount of amazing artists attached to it and along with that a number of beautiful variant covers. So no worries on that front.

I had never been a huge fan of Batman and Catwoman . They were admittedly good in a few occasions and boring in others. But this run by King has made me a bonafide permanent fan of them both and I am eagerly awaiting the wedding between the two of them.

The Solicitations for Batman #50 reads as follows:

      BATMAN #50
      written by TOM KING
art by MIKEL JANIN, DAVID FINCH, JOELLE JONES, MITCH GERADS, RAFAEL ALBUQUERQUE, NEAL ADAMS, ANDY KUBERT, BECKY CLOONAN, TY TEMPLETON, JOSE LUIS GARCIA-LOPEZ, FRANK MILLER, LEE BERMEJO and more
      cover by MIKEL JANIN
      variant cover by OLIVIER COIPEL
variant cover by JIM LEE and SCOTT WILLIAMS

It’s the wedding you never thought you’d see! The Batrimony is real as Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle are set to tie the knot in a can’t-miss, extra-length milestone issue that will reshape Gotham City. All their friends (and a few enemies?) will be party to a comic book coupling for the ages.

Superstar scribe Tom King officiates the sure-to-be-offbeat nuptials, joined by an all-star lineup of guest classic Bat-artists doffing their hats to the lucky couple in a series of pre-wedding flashback scenes sure to set the romantic mood.

And the solicitation for Catwoman #1 read as follows:

The wedding night’s barely over, but Catwoman’s back on the streets, this time to expose a copycat who’s pulling heists around Gotham City. As Selina cracks the whip on her former criminal cohorts, she’s attracting unwanted attention from one of Gotham’s most dangerous groups. The mob? Nope. Try the GCPD. And as if the Bat-Bride didn’t have enough problems, don’t miss the debut of an all-new villain determined to make trouble for all nine of Selina’s lives. Don’t miss the start of an all-new monthly series written and illustrated by Eisner Award-nominee Joëlle Jones!

I don’t know whether the two of them will actually get married, but I hope they do. I am simply more interested in Batman getting a simple happiness and even more interested in how a superhero marriage of Batman with a known criminal Catwoman will affect the wider DC Universe then both of them not getting married over some reason.

Anyway, let us see what is gonna happen in the Big Batcat Wedding Ceremony this week.
