Archie 700

Welcome to The Column where I talk about something I have been a fan of for a long time.

I grew up reading Archie Comics. It was amazing to go into that world and play with it. More than Marvel or DC, I have read much more of Archie Comics.

In October 2016, Archie Comics announced and started a new Archie comic series in a new world which was written by Mark Waid. I was a little reluctant to accept the change but I gradually accepted it and started reading it.

And what can I say? I love it. It is just amazing and so hilarious. This is how an Archie comic series should be. This is how it always should be in classic Riverdale. It was fantastic how it showcased the entire Riverdale cast and stayed true to all of their characteristics.

I would say that it was one of Mark Waid’s best runs in comics ever and this was coming at a time when I didn’t really like some of his work. But nevertheless, this series maintained that quality.

But that run is coming to an end. Waid is moving on to a Archie 1941 series whereas Nick Spencer is taking over Archie with legacy number #700 in November 2018. A few weeks ago, it would have made me kinda afraid of how it would go, but after Amazing Spider-man #1, I am not too worried.

With a bevy of wonderful artists, Waid created something super special here and something I will always appreciate and read over again and again.
