DVD Review – The Miracle Season

DVD Reviews, Film, Reviews, Top Story

There used to be a point where the sort of inspirational, true life sports story would find a way into a couple thousands movie theaters for a couple weeks as counter programming throughout the year. Films like Pride, Coach Carter and the like all managed to find part of an audience in theaters. Lately a number of true life sports film have found their way into the direct to DVD pile because the best sports films aren’t in theaters anymore; they tend to be documentaries that wind up on ESPN’s “30 for 30” series among other things.

Which is where we find The Miracle Season: direct to DVD and forgotten as soon as it hits the shelves.

Simple premise: After the death of their star player (Danika Yarosh) a volleyball team has to rally to try and win a state championship. It’s a typical sports film inspired by a real-life event, of course, and there’s nothing beyond the sort of cliched sports tale the film is. If you want a pretty standard, paint by numbers then this is an easy rental.

Nothing of significance.
