Eartha Kitt was the real cat's meow. The famed actress, singer and dancer passed away early this morning. For this self-proclaimed "sex kitten" her career spanned six decades, beginning with her stint as a dancer as part of the famed Katherine Dunham troupe. During the 1960s she was a bit of a rebel when she denounced the Vietnam War. But she knew how to light up a room; Orson Welles once dubbed her the "most exciting woman in the world". Just last week I was dining with a film critic who recounted a story of getting into a drinking contest with Kitt many years ago. Big mistake. This "Santa Baby" proved to be a formidable adversary, ultimately winning out. The critic had to have help getting up, his legs all wobbly-like. »»
