Tension and speculation about a mysterious alien signal has been building all season and last week we were able to confirm that not only were these transmissions coming from a ship, they were coming from a ship with an American flag on it. What did that mean? Was this a ship from the future? A paralell universe? One of those almost identical to Earth planets that Kirk kept running into on Star Trek? Turns out the answer was none of the above. »»
I really like the idea of having the A-plot of an episode focused on Jo. She's a fun character and it is good to see her having a chance to shine. Really, it's always a nice change of pace to have the A-plot centered around anyone other than Jack (I think Jack's the perfect lead for Eureka, but it's nice to mix things up every now and then). Unfortunately, the resulting episode, "My Face or Yours," was far from perfect. »»
In a lot of ways, "Welcome Back Carter" was really just about resolving the cliffhanger that ended the first half of season three. Eureka is about the town of Eureka, built back in the 1950s by the government. Its purpose is to bring many of the country's top minds together in one place to invent. As a result, living in Eureka is like living in the not-too-distant future. Of course, with all the cutting edge experimentation going on, things can go wrong. And go wrong they often to. Fortunately, Sheriff Carter and the geniuses of Eureka usually manage to come up with a solution before things get too far out of hand. »»
Whew, not much happening this week in the world of DVDs, but maybe that's because so much is going on in theatres. The Dark Knight people, nuff said! But for those that don't wish to venture outside their homes other then going to their local DVD retailer; there's at least a few new titles ready for your collection. New seasons of Saving Grace, B.L. Stryker, Reno 911!, and Dallas are on their way for all your television fixes. If you're in the mood for action, comedy, or horror then pick up The Bank Job, College Road Trip, or the remake of the Japanese film Shutter. Not much else going on, but surely there's something you can find to watch. And I'll stop calling you Shirley, sorry. »»
