Hannah Montana: The Complete First Season - DVD Review

Who would have ever imagined that 15 years ago country music star (and one-hit wonder) Billy Ray Cyrus, would be on a hit television show. But that was before he had a daughter named Miley. Tweens know her better as Hannah Montana, that alter ego of hers with a same-name show on the Disney Channel. Adults probably still know Billy Ray as Billy Ray, but their kids know him as his character on the series, Robbie Ray. Yes, the writing team behind this show are very creative! Still the Hannah Montana brand has become a money-making machine for Disney and you can't argue with that. »»

Ken Griffey Senior was a vital cog of the famed Cincinnati Reds "Big Red Machine" of the 1970s. Rocky Johnson was one of the more famous black wrestlers of the 1970s. Billy Ray Cyrus had a hit song that played on the top of every chart in 1992. What do they all have in common? They've all been eclipsed in their own professions by their children. Ken Griffey Jr. is perhaps the best baseball player of his generation. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was one of the WWF's greatest champions before becoming one of Hollywood's hot young acting talents. And Miley Cyrus has sold more records then her father, who tours casinos while his daughter sells out arenas. Miley has now done what her father also could never do: have a successful concert movie. »»

A Moment's All I Ask - 4.10.08

Since I last wrote, the cruise ship singer (and I'm not talking about Danny), Ramiele, has been voted off and this week, we're in Idol overload. The saddest part of all? Kristy Lee Cook is fairing the best of the women right now! How in the hell did that happen?! I don't even want to recap "Inspirational" night, so let's get to the "star-studded" Idol Gives Back. »»

Short Attention Span Theater

Hellfire and bustification, it's about damn time I came back. For those who didn't read 411, I'm Ryan T. Murphy; I used to write this column over there in 2003, as well as the Murphy Mondays news column. I'd like to thank good ol' J.R. Fernandez and Johnny 'Dro for bringin' me back. For the noobs, I like to call Short Attention Span Theater an e-zine rather than a column. As the name suggests, I jump all over the place, with short opinion pieces on music (and possibly a sliver of movie opinions; not to step on the collective toes of Popcorn Junkies, it won't be a main focus). I cover all genres of music although I have a healthy bias toward punk, reggae and Southern rock. And I'm an unbelievably opinionated prick, so if I say something that offends you or that you disagree with, good. Oh and don't expect pictures, I'm still in the fetal stage of these fancy computer writin's. »»
