Indianapolis Colts vs Tennessee Titans: NFL Week 8 Thoughts http://insidepulse.com/2011/11/02/indianapolis-colts-vs-tennessee-titans-nfl-week-8-thoughts/ http://insidepulse.com/2011/11/02/indianapolis-colts-vs-tennessee-titans-nfl-week-8-thoughts/#comments Wed, 02 Nov 2011 13:00:39 +0000 http://insidepulse.com/?p=275231 Colts 10 – Titans 27

Daniels finds the Colts fascinating: “You know the really scary part for the Colts?  They really only have two winnable games on their schedule and they’re both against Jacksonville.  Regardless of whether or not they finish fulldefeated, their draft next year will be fascinating.  With Peyton, they need fresh receivers and offensive line manpower.  Or they can take Luck.  Or they can trade Luck.”

But Rhett Davis just sounds bored: “Two games played between the AFC South this week.  The Colts without Peyton Manning are just pathetic.  This is why you don’t plan your team around one player.  No matter how Peytony the Manning may be.  Not too much to say about this game except that the Colts’ offense is tired and looking worse and worse each week. The Titans sometimes look like a threat and then others don’t like a threat for anything.  This was an easy win for the Titans… as most of Colts’ opponents games with them will be.”

My Take: I’m rooting for the Colts to get the #1 pick, just because they easily have the most interesting scenario in that case, and as they’re an AFC team, my Packers wouldn’t have to worry about Luck in the playoffs… I’m having nightmares enough with Cam Newton around.  The Titans aren’t really good, but they’re just good enough to beat most bad teams and an occasional good one. On a down year, in a weak division, they may be able to backdoor their way into a playoff spot.

Indianapolis Colts vs Cincinnati Bengals: NFL Week 6 Thoughts http://insidepulse.com/2011/10/18/indianapolis-colts-vs-cincinnati/ http://insidepulse.com/2011/10/18/indianapolis-colts-vs-cincinnati/#comments Tue, 18 Oct 2011 18:00:14 +0000 http://insidepulse.com/?p=272334 Indianapolis Colts 17 – Cincinnati Bengals 27

Rhett Davis believed in the Colts… for a second: It appeared that the Colts were going to end their losing streak, but it just wasn’t to be.  Curtis Painter rallied the troupes in what seemed to be a charge to take the win.  But the Bengals defense did the improbable and actually blocked the tieing field goal.  The Colts would then fumble the ball in the ending minutes straight into the hands of the Bengals defense for the easy TD for them.

Daniels, likewise, was fooled momentarily by Painter: Maybe we (and by we I mean I) should slow down on thinking Painter’s something other than Peyton Manning’s back-up.

My Take: Both of my colleagues are missing the point here.  The Bengals are the real story.  This team is 4-2 with a very easy schedule so far.  They already have as many wins as they had all of last year!  I mean, sure, things get tougher now, but they still have the Rams, Arizona, Cleveland, a banged up Texans, and a who knows what you get Titans team.  If they can hold serve those games and somehow upset the Ravens once or take care of the Seahawks in Seattle, that’s potentially 10 wins and a likely playoff spot.  Did anyone predict that as even a possibility?  This is a team that lost to Denver, so it’s far from a sure thing, but still, impressive growth.  These Colts, after losing to the Chiefs last week, are just finding a way to lose every game… I wonder why.

Pittsburgh Steelers don’t look like Super Bowl Contenders against Ailint Colts: NFL Week 3 Commentary http://insidepulse.com/2011/09/26/pittsburgh-steelers-dont-look-like-super-bowl-contenders-against-ailint-colts-nfl-week-3-commentary/ http://insidepulse.com/2011/09/26/pittsburgh-steelers-dont-look-like-super-bowl-contenders-against-ailint-colts-nfl-week-3-commentary/#comments Tue, 27 Sep 2011 01:00:48 +0000 http://insidepulse.com/?p=268105 Pittsburgh Steelers 23, Indianapolis Colts 20

Thoughts, gentlemen?

Worried?  Why yes, Grey Scherl is: I know that at the end of the day it matters who gets the win and who gets the loss, not so much what the score it. But Indianapolis has been having a below sub-par season without Peyton Manning, and while I guess it’s possible that this is the week that the offense clicked, I see this game as more telling of the Steelers. Unless the Colts have a sudden Kerry Collins driven turnaround, the Steelers just let up more points than the Texans or Browns. So is this game more telling for the Colts or the Steelers? Are the Colts getting better, or are the Steelers getting worse?

Our own Joe Violet is concerned with the Steelers: I also saw a major problem with the Steelers this week: Big Ben’s going to take a pounding without a working front line. You think Flozell Adams might be getting a call this week? Hmmm…

But Daniels pshaws away the concern: The Colts put up a good fight here, but they need a quarterback.  Maybe at a certain point we can start blaming Peyton for not giving them enough notice that they could have enticed a better quarterback than Kerry Collins out of retirement (Warner, for instance).  The Steelers win ugly, that’s what they do, so it’s hard to claim that this win was any different than a normal Steelers win.

My Take: The Steelers are the most talented team in football, but really seem to lack focus.  That has to fall on Coach Mike Tomlin, right?  Along with the Bears and Jets, the Steelers are also one of the several top teams to lack a top notch, or, really, even good offensive line.  Unless they get that settled, Ben’s going to continue to be knocked around big time.  Add in a weak secondary that’s showing even Troy Polamalu can’t be everywhere at once, and, well, as talented as they are other places, they can’t hope to really compete for the title with these wholes without full effort.  The Colts, meanwhile, are a prideful veteran club who’ve been hearing how terrible they are.  On national television, they came to play.

Indianapolis Colts’ Peyton Manning Surgery Update http://insidepulse.com/2011/09/09/indianapolis-colts-peyton-manning-surgery-update/ http://insidepulse.com/2011/09/09/indianapolis-colts-peyton-manning-surgery-update/#comments Fri, 09 Sep 2011 19:00:54 +0000 http://insidepulse.com/?p=265053 Peyton Manning, as reported yesterday, had another fusion surgery on his neck yesterday.  As of now the team is unsure he will return this year, but declined to put him on the full-year injured reserve.  The surgery usually has a ten week recovery time, placing Manning back around 11/13 against Jacksonville, but because of the previous surgery, it could be significantly more or less.  The team’s statement follows:

“This procedure is performed regularly throughout the country on persons from all walks of life, including professional football players. Two former Colts players had this same procedure last winter and have fully resumed their careers.

“Rehabilitation from such surgery is typically an involved process. Therefore, there will be no estimation of a return date at this time.”

“To say I am disappointed in not being able to play is an understatement,” Manning said in a statement. “The best part about football is being out there on the field playing with my teammates. It will be tough not to be out there playing for the organization and our fans.

“I simply am not healthy enough to play, and I am doing everything I can to get my health back. The team will do fine without me, and I know for sure that I will miss them much more than they will miss me.”
