Week 16 was kind to me as I finished 10-6 ATS and 3-0 in my locks of the week. For the season, I am 117-123 ATS and 22-26 ATS for locks, and so I’d like nothing more than to finish strong … and above .500 for the season against the spread in what has been a very wacky NFL season. I am also going to give four locks this week so I can try and get to an even record in that department too.

Onto the picks!

SUNDAY:

Jacksonville (+4.5) over TENNESSEE — The Jaguars won’t try very hard to win this one since they still have a chance at the #1 draft pick. However, they won’t have to try that hard to keep it close against a Titans team that is almost as bad as they are. Titans win 21-17

PITTSBURGH (-7.5) over Cleveland — The Steelers are officially out of Playoff contention, but that doesn’t mean they won’t want to finish the season strong at home to get back to .500 against an inferior Browns team. Steelers win 27-19

CINCINNATI (+3.5) over Baltimore — The Bengals and Ravens are both Playoff-bound, but both division rivals will still want to finish the regular season on a positive note. I have been riding with the Bengals almost all season, so why not stick with Cincinnati one more time? Bengals win 23-20

*LOCK IT UP: NEW ORLEANS (-4.5) over Carolina — The Saints and Panthers have both been playing with chips on their shoulders lately, albeit too little too late. I like the Saints to win in a shootout to get to 8-8 in a very forgettable season. Mark my words, though, these angry, pissed off Saints will be a collective force to be reckoned with in 2013 once they are able to get a fresh start. Saints win 34-28

NEW ENGLAND (-10.5) over Miami — The Patriots almost slipped up big-time in Jacksonville last week. They will not do the same thing at home when they still can lock up the #1 seed in the AFC with a Texans’ loss. Patriots win 31-17

Houston (-4.5) over INDIANAPOLIS — With the Patriots breathing down their necks, the Texans have all of the motivation here to preserve their #1 ranking, while the Colts are already locked into a wild card slot. If Houston jumps out to a huge early lead and keeps the pressure on Indy’s offense, I can see the Colts packing up early and playing for another day. Texans win 31-20

NY Jets (+3.5) over BUFFALO — These two teams started the season against each other and now they get to wrap things up in a meaningless contest up north. The Jets are a complete mess but the Bills aren’t that good either. I am taking the points but am not confident about this one in any way. Bills win 13-10

Philadelphia (+8.5) over NY GIANTS — This is Andy Reid’s last game as the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, and Michael Vick will be getting the start. What better way for the Giants’ roller-coaster season to end than to lose a game they should have no business losing? WIth that said, I think the Giants will do just enough to hold off the Eagles, but they will still miss out on the Playoffs due to last week’s loss at Baltimore coupled with what I think is one of three most likely scenarios — a Bears win in Detroit. Giants win 28-24

Chicago (-2.5) over DETROIT — The Bears are still alive for the Playoffs but like everyone else fighting for that last wild card slot in the NFC, they need some help to get in. I think they will prevail over the Lions though, in a close one. Bears win 24-20

*LOCK IT UP: ATLANTA (-6.5) over Tampa Bay — No way the Falcons lose their momentum against a Bucs team that has simply quit on their coach. Falcons win 42-13

MINNESOTA (+2.5) over Green Bay — The Packers and Vikings will both be fighting for something. Green Bay would love to have a first round bye in the Playoffs, while the Vikings simply want to get into the Playoffs. I have a feeling that the Vikings will be slightly more motivated than the Packers to win at all costs here, and when all is said and done Minnesota will win. Adrian Peterson may or may not break the single-season rushing record during this contest, but he’s certainly my choice for 2012 MVP. Vikings win 31-27

SAN FRANCISCO (-16.5) over Arizona — I just don’t see Arizona scoring very many points, so I have to take that albatross of a spread and go with the Niners. Niners win 24-6

SEATTLE (-10.5) over St. Louis — Can anyone stop this upstart Seattle team anymore? I don’t think these Rams will, especially on the road. Seahawks win 38-20

DENVER (-16.5) over Kansas City — This is another HUGE spread, but Denver will be fighting off New England to hold onto that first-round bye and Kansas City will be fighting off Jacksonville for a chance at that first-round draft pick. Therefore… Broncos win 31-14

*LOCK IT UP: SAN DIEGO (-6.5) over Oakland — This will be Norv Turner’s last game as head coach of the San Diego Chargers and the Bolts have been playing well during his home stretch. Meanwhile, the Raiders absolutely have looked absolutely dreadful and they just don’t score very much. Chargers win 28-9

SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL:

*LOCK IT UP: Dallas (+3.5) over WASHINGTON — I know that almost everyone will be picking against Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys here. After all, the game is in Washington, RGIII is the chosen one, and this season would just seem very anti-climactic if the Redskins somehow miss out on the postseason. But funnier things have happened in the NFL, and I just have this sneaking suspicion that this game will be close. Super close. Overtime close. And, well, in overtime… Cowboys win 27-24

That’s all for this week’s edition — AND THIS SEASON — of SLICED SPREAD.

See you next year and good luck in the Playoffs!

Last week, I was a whopping 8-8. I would have been 8-6 without the Sunday Night and Monday Night Football games, so thankfully we say goodbye to one of those and are graced with NFL action this Saturday night. Or, as I like to call it, Christmas Eve Eve.

Anyway … onto the picks!

SATURDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL:

*LOCK IT UP: Atlanta (-3.5) over DETROIT — The Falcons scorched the Giants and burned me last week. I’m done going against them. Falcons win 31-20

SUNDAY:

*LOCK IT UP: GREEN BAY (-13.5) over Tennessee — The Titans were gifted a win by Mark Sanchez last week. Good luck in Green Bay in December. Packers win 34-10

*LOCK IT UP: Minnesota (+9.5) over HOUSTON– I love the desperate Vikings to cover as heavy underdogs. In Adrian Peterson I trust. Christian Ponder, not so much.  Texans win 28-23

*H2H SURVIVOR PICK: TAMPA BAY (-3.5) over St. Louis– By now, you probably only have a handful of teams left. I was right with Miami over the Jags’ last week head to head, and I’ll take my chances with a decent Tampa team playing at home against a Rams’ squad that seems to really only save their best for the Niners. Bucs win 20-14

Washington (-4.5) over PHILADELPHIA– This is NOT an easy game for the Redskins. But they are hungry and I think they pull away late. Redskins win 28-20

New Orleans (+2.5) over DALLAS – Drew Brees is back to form just in time for the annual Tony Romo collapse. Saints win 34-27

NY Giants (-1.5) over BALTIMORE — I’ll give the Giants one more week to right this ship. I just can’t go against them in one of those sudden death games they tend to win behind Eli Manning. Giants win 24-20

Buffalo (+4.5) over MIAMI — I like the points more than I like the Bills to win outright. Dolphins win 19-16

Cincinnati (+4.5) over PITTSBURGH– The Bengals don’t historically beat the Steelers, but those points are too many for me to pass up when I think Cincy is the better team. Actually, now that I am thinking about it… Bengals win 26-20

CAROLINA (-9.5) over Oakland – I can’t gauge either team anymore, but Oakland can’t score touchdowns and the Panthers are hot, so… Panthers win 31-12

Indianapolis (-6.5) over KANSAS CITY – If you can’t beat the Chiefs, you don’t deserve to make the playoffs. Colts win 27-17

New England (-14.5) over JACKSONVILLE – Next. Patriots win 41-10

Cleveland (+13.5) over DENVER — I think the Browns will play just close enough to cover, but the game will never be in doubt. Broncos win 30-17

ARIZONA (+5.5) over Chicago – I just can’t ignore the Bears’ downward spiral, though I do think they eek this one out. Bears win 23-20

NY JETS (-1.5) over San Diego — Let the Greg McElroy era begin! Too little, too late, but… Jets win 23-21

SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL:

SEATTLE (+0.5) over San Francisco — This is clearly the matchup of the week and I am glad it was flexed to Sunday night. The Seahawks won’t score 50 points against the Niners, and I love this matchup of young upstart QBs flanked by two workhorse running backs. This will be a fun one on Christmas Eve Eve, and when all is said and done… Seahawks win 34-31

That’s all for this week’s edition of SLICED SPREAD.

See you next week for the always fun and unpredictable Week 17 — AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS! — CB.

I don’t even want to talk about last week’s debacle (4-12, 0-3 in locks). Alas, that’s what happens a couple of times per year over 17 weeks when you try to not always go with all the favorites and the big favorites cover. Let’s hope Week 15 turns that win / loss record on its head.

Anyway, onto the picks!

THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL:

Cincinnati (-3.5) over PHILADELPHIA  — I got crushed last week, and it started by picking an inferior team to cover as home dogs last Thursday night. The Bengals are still fighting for their AFC Playoff lives and are the superior team, so… Bengals win 28-13

SUNDAY:

CLEVELAND (+1.5) over Washington — The Browns have been playing tough lately and even winning. I sense a trap game for the Redskins. Browns win 23-20

Green Bay (-2.5) over CHICAGO — The Bears are reeling and the Packers love it. Packers win 34-16

*UNTOUCHABLE SPREAD OF THE WEEK: NEW ORLEANS (-3.5) over Tampa Bay — I don’t trust either of these teams anymore, and as bad as the Saints have been these past two weeks, they were facing much stiffer competition (Falcons and Giants). Saints win 26-20

ST. LOUIS (-2.5) over Minnesota — The Rams have impressed me with their gritty play this year. The Vikings are also a tough team but after last week’s demolishing of the Bears, Minnesota could be a little flat here. Rams win 27-24

*LOCK IT UP: NY Giants (+1.5) over ATLANTA — Love the Giants here as underdogs. In fact, I think it won’t even be close. Giants win 38-20

*H2H SURVIVOR PICK: MIAMI (-7.5) over Jacksonville – If you’re still alive in Survivor, chances are you used up all the good teams by now. That’s why I’m throwing out the Dolphins as my head to head Survivor pick this week, as they really should take care of the Jaguars with ease. Dolphins win 21-9

Indianapolis (+9.5) over HOUSTON — The Texans will want to bounce back quickly from the New England debacle, but the surging Colts will beg to differ. This will be close, but in an upset… Colts win 28-27

Denver (-2.5) over BALTIMORE — The Ravens are good, just not as good as the Broncos. Broncos win 34-24

SAN DIEGO (-3.5) over Carolina — Both teams burned me last week. I think the Panthers had their adrenaline pumping Super Bowl last week, so they will be at an emotional low on the west coast. Chargers win 28-13

Detroit (-5.5) over ARIZONA — The Cardinals are that bad. And finally, the Lions catch a break. Lions win 17-6

Seattle (-5.5) over BUFFALO — The Seahawks seem to be having one of those magical seasons that just might lead them deep into the Playoffs. I don’t think they’ll slip up here. Seahawks win 29-21

DALLAS (+1.5) over Pittsburgh — I don’t know which Cowboys or which Steelers teams will show up this week. I’ll take the home dogs in a coin toss. Cowboys win 24-22

Kansas City (+3.5) over OAKLAND — The Chiefs and Raiders are both not world-beaters, but they love to beat up each other. I think the Chiefs win but love the points either way. Chiefs win 19-15

SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL:

*LOCK IT UP: NEW ENGLAND (-5.5) over San Francisco — The Patriots are just clicking and kicking ass offensively. The Niners will fall like the Texans did last week, just not in as much of a blowout. Patriots win 41-28

MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL:

*LOCK IT UP: NY Jets (+1.5) over TENNESSEE — Yes, I’m picking the Jets as one of my locks of the week. The Titans are terrible and New York has won two in a row by running the ball as much as possible in hard-to-watch low-scoring affairs. I sense more of the same here. Jets win 13-10

That’s all for this week’s edition of SLICED SPREAD.

See you next week — CB.

In case you were wondering, I am now 95-97 against the spread for the entire season after going 10-6 last week. I am also 19-20 ATS in my locks of the week, and I was on a nice roll in Survivor picks until the Bears tripped me up in Week 13.

With that said, let’s get down to the business at hand. Onto the picks!

THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL:

OAKLAND (+10.5) over Denver — The first of three games where the spread is just a bit too overinflated. The Broncos will struggle to get up for this road game on the West Coast on a Thursday night, too. They’ll win, but not cover. Broncos win 27-19

SUNDAY:

*LOCK IT UP: Kansas City (+6.5) over CLEVELAND — The Chiefs have played tough lately against the spread, so I’m taking the points. Browns win 20-16

PITTSBURGH (-6.5) over San Diego — Let the Chargers’ swoon continue, especially now that it’s December. Steelers win 24-14

NY Jets (-2.5) over JACKSONVILLE — The Jets love to dangle the carrot in front of their fans, so I firmly believe they will run the table, only to miss the Playoffs anyway. Jets win 24-21

*LOCK IT UP/H2H SURVIVOR PICK: INDIANAPOLIS (-5.5) over Tennessee — Andrew Luck was incredible last week in the clutch. He won’t need such heroics here. Colts win 29-17

*LOCK IT UP: Atlanta (-3.5) over CAROLINA — I can’t keep going against the Falcons and getting burned, so… Falcons win 34-21

CINCINNATI (-3.5) over Dallas — Man, the Bengals look sharp lately. I wouldn’t want to face them in the AFC Playoffs, that’s for sure. Bengals win 28-24

St. Louis (+3.5) over BUFFALO — I like the Rams’ grit under Jeff Fisher. This one won’t be easy, but I like an upset. Rams win 17-13

MINNESOTA (+2.5) over Chicago — Adrian Peterson has really hit his stride and while the Bears should win this one, they just seem to be too uneven at the moment for me to pick them on the road against a division rival. Vikings win 26-20

Philadelphia (+7.5) over TAMPA BAY — The Eagles covered a big number last week, and despite their head to head losing streak I think they cover again. Bucs win 27-23

WASHINGTON (-2.5) over Baltimore — This is a tough one to call, but I am riding the RGIII bandwagon after last week’s impressive performance against the defending Super Bowl Champs. Redskins win 23-20

Miami (+10.5) over SAN FRANCISCO — Are the Dolphins good enough to not get blown out in SF? It can really go either way, but… Niners win 26-17

Arizona (+10.5) over SEATTLE — I know the Cardinals aren’t setting the world on fire offensively, but defensively they can be stingy at times. Seahawks win 20-10

NY GIANTS (-5.5) over New Orleans — Drew Brees should torch the Giants’ secondary, you know, if he still cares enough to win this season. With that said, I just like the Giants more at home and outdoors. Giants win 31-23

SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL:

GREEN BAY (-7.5) over Detroit — The Lions’ Playoff hopes are gone and now they travel to Green Bay with the calendar flipped over to December to face Aaron Rodgers on national television. Yikes. Packers win 34-19

MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL:

Houston (+3.5) over NEW ENGLAND — This could be a preview of the AFC Championship game, and I expect both teams to deliver. This is more of a statement game for the Texans than it is for New England, yet Tom Brady usually thrives in these big moments. I’ve gone back and forth so much on who might come out on top, so I’m taking the 3.5 points with more confidence than my actual score prediction. Well, here goes nothin’ … Texans win 28-27

That’s all for this week’s edition of SLICED SPREAD.

The Thanksgiving holiday week was a wash for me against the spread as I finished with a record of 8-8, 1-2 in my locks of the week and 1-0 in my head to head Survivor pick (Bengals over the Raiders).

Let’s hope Week 13 is just a little bit luckier than that, shall we? Onto the picks!

Home teams are shown in CAPs

Thursday Night Football:

New Orleans (+3.5) over ATLANTA — I am riding with more underdogs than favorites this week, and it begins on Thursday night. If the Saints have one last stand in them, this will be it. I’m calling an upset but it’ll be close either way. Saints win 27-24

Sunday:

KANSAS CITY (+2.5) over Carolina — The Panthers won against an atrocious Eagles team on Monday night. The Chiefs are pretty horrific too, but they showed last week that they still have a little fight left in them. Carolina could win, but I like Kansas City at home to score a rare victory. Also, I wonder if anyone will have the guts to pick the Chiefs in Survivor pools this week, since I almost did myself. Chiefs win 19-16

ST. LOUIS (+7.5) over San Francisco — The Rams already played the Niners to a tie earlier this season, so I’m taking the points even though I think SF will win this one second time around. Niners win 28-21

*LOCK IT UP: New England (-8.5) over MIAMI — When the Pats are on fire, they don’t hold back against their division foes, or anyone else for that matter. Patriots win 41-20

*LOCK IT UP: Houston (-5.5) over TENNESSEE — The Texans are the superior team and 5.5 points doesn’t scare me in the least. Texans win 38-17

*H2H SURVIVOR PICK: CHICAGO (-4.5) over Seattle — The Bears are just so much better with Jay Cutler behind center and Chicago’s defense will stand tall at home. Bears win 27-12

Indianapolis (+4.5) over DETROIT — The Lions suffered a horrible, heartbreaking loss on Thanksgiving Day while the Colts shined at Buffalo. I like Andrew Luck even on the road. Colts win 21-17

Minnesota (+9.5) over GREEN BAY — The Packers were caught sleepwalking against the Giants in what should have been an epic battle. I like the Vikings to cover, but the Packers to win head to head. Packers win 24-17

Arizona (+4.5) over NY JETS — The Jets probably will win this game, but I have a feeling it will be close and low-scoring enough for Arizona to sneakily cover. Jets win 17-13

Jacksonville (+5.5) over BUFFALO — Chad Henne is familiar with trekking up to Buffalo when he was with the Dolphins and his solid play at QB makes me think an upset can definitely happen this week. Jaguars win 24-20

Tampa Bay (+7.5) over DENVER — I love Tampa Bay this week to cover. The Broncos are a solid team all the way around, but the Bucs will play them tough and tight. Broncos win 26-23

Pittsburgh (+6.5) over BALTIMORE — Everyone seems to think the Ravens will crush the Steelers this week. I don’t remember the last time these games weren’t too close to call regardless of the circumstances. Ravens win 21-16

Cleveland (+1.5) over OAKLAND — The Browns won last week, so there’s not way they can make it two in a row, right? Against the Raiders, anything is possible. Dream big, Browns fans! Browns win 27-17

*LOCK IT UP: Cincinnati (-1.5) over SAN DIEGO — Like I said last week, the Bengals are just clicking way too well offensively for me to go against them. I like the small number and I think the Chargers have given us their last gasp for 2012. Bengals win 34-21

Sunday Night Football:

Philadelphia (+9.5) over DALLAS — God I hate this game. If the Eagles were playing ANYONE else, I would probably say that Philly is just completely finished and they will simply get embarrassed yet again. However, playing their weakest division rival in the Cowboys on another nationally televised game leads me to think the Eagles will take whatever remnants of pride they have left and put it all into this contest. Therefore… Cowboys win 28-24

Monday Night Football:

NY Giants (-2.5) over WASHINGTON — The Giants righted the ship last week and simply dismantled the Packers. The Redskins did pretty much the same to the Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day as RGIII fully arrived on the national stage. I think the Giants are still the superior team, however, and with the division hanging in the balance New York will not let up here. With that said, Griffin can definitely expose the Giants’ weak secondary if he’s given ample time to do so, which is why I think this game will wind up being a shootout over a defensive struggle. Ultimately… Giants win 31-28

That’s all for this week’s edition of SLICED SPREAD.

See you next week — CB.

I have been on a pretty good roll lately, with three straight weeks above .500 against the spread and Week 11 was one of my best of the season as I finished 10-4 ATS. I was very proud of the Cardinals and Browns for proving me right by covering those big spreads, but I am kicking myself for not going with the Jaguars +15.5 against the Texans. Not that Houston couldn’t have covered the big number, but that’s a very tall order in the NFL against anyone.

As we move forward to a pivotal Week 12, we are faced with the always-interesting Thanksgiving Thursday slate of three games on the docket. That can make or break the whole week, so let’s hope for a clean sweep!

Now, onto the picks!

Home teams are shown in CAPs

Thanksgiving Thursday Football:

Houston (-3.5) over DETROIT — Last week was the Texans’ wake-up call. Are the Lions still even awake? Texans win 31-20

DALLAS (-3.5) over Washington — I could have gone both ways on this game, but with Dallas playing Thanksgiving hosts on a short week after gaining a little momentum I just have that feeling that the Cowboys will find a way to win. I am not saying they will blow Washington’s doors off, but they will manage to cover late. Cowboys win 27-21

New England (-6.5) over NY JETS — The Jets proved me wrong in St. Louis last week and finally showed signs of life. Gronkowski’s injury will certainly help the Jets compete, but I still feel like New England is the superior team and that the Pats’ offense will pull away in the second half. Patriots win 38-24

Sunday:

Seattle (-2.5) over MIAMI — The Seahawks just have that spark right now that makes me overlook an early East Coast trip for them. Seahawks win 21-17

Tennessee (-2.5) over JACKSONVILLE — Chad Henne, welcome back to the NFL dance. However, with Maurice Jones Drew still likely sidelined on Sunday and the Jaguars still with an atrocious home record, I still see the Titans winning this one relatively comfortably. Titans win 28-17

*H2H SURVIVOR PICK: CINCINNATI (-7.5) over Oakland —  Unlike the Seahawks, I don’t trust the Raiders on an early East Coast trip, especially against a Bengals team that has really been clicking well offensively of late. Bengals win 35-13

*LOCK IT UP: Pittsburgh (-1.5) over CLEVELAND — I feel like there is tremendous line value here following the Steelers dreadfully flat performance on Monday Night Football. The Browns might play tough, but I love Pittsburgh’s chances at covering 1.5 points before all is said and done, Charlie Batch and all. Steelers win 20-17

*UNTOUCHABLE SPREAD OF THE WEEK: KANSAS CITY (+10.5) over Denver — The Broncos should destroy the Chiefs, but crazy things happen when a point spread goes above 10 points against a division rival. Therefore… Broncos win 31-23

INDIANAPOLIS (-3.5) over Buffalo —  The Colts get lambasted by the Patriots last week. After a blowout like that, I have a feeling the Colts’ pride will come into play for them to play Buffalo as tough as they can on home turf. It will be enough. Colts win 24-17

*LOCK IT UP: TAMPA BAY (+0.5) over AtlantaEverything seems to be bouncing in Tampa’s favor lately, and since the Falcons don’t really need this game… Bucs win 31-28

CHICAGO (-5.5) over Minnesota — Jay Cutler will mercifully be back for the Bears this week, and that will make all the difference. Bears win 26-20

*LOCK IT UP: Baltimore (+0.5) over SAN DIEGO — Stick a fork in the Chargers, they’re done. Ravens win 34-22

NEW ORLEANS (+1.5) over San Francisco — The Saints have climbed all the way back to .500 and they will NOT let up here. The Niners are obviously impressive no matter who is behind center, but a QB controversy is never beneficial to any team. Drew Brees puts this one on his shoulders and takes it. Saints win 29-24

ARIZONA (-2.5) over St. Louis — If the Rams couldn’t stop the Jets at home, they can’t stop anyone. Cardinals win 20-13

Sunday Night Football:

NY GIANTS (-2.5) over Green BayThis is easily the game of the week. The Giants had their bye week at the right time while the Packers are faced with their second straight road game. This is the time of year where the Giants are at their most unpredictable, but they will rise up here like the defending Super Bowl Champions they are. Giants win 27-24

Monday Night Football:

Carolina (+2.5) over PHILADELPHIA — Andy Reid is as lame duck as lame duck gets. This is the perfect time for the Panthers to finally pick off a team and get a rare win. Panthers win 17-13

That’s all for this week’s edition of SLICED SPREAD.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving and see you next week — CB.

Sliced Spread: 2012 NFL Football Week 11 Picks Against The Spread and Score Predictions http://insidepulse.com/2012/11/13/sliced-spread-2012-nfl-football-week-11-picks-against-the-spread-and-score-predictions/ http://insidepulse.com/2012/11/13/sliced-spread-2012-nfl-football-week-11-picks-against-the-spread-and-score-predictions/#comments Wed, 14 Nov 2012 03:44:19 +0000 http://insidepulse.com/?p=317792 Welcome to SLICED SPREAD, the place on Inside Pulse Sports for weekly NFL picks against the spread, head to head survivor picks, and score prognostications. For the second straight week, I went 8-6 against the spread and 2-1 in locks / best bets. I also nailed my Survivor Pick because I knew that my hometown favorite New York Jets were going to lose easily out west as they are just in shambles right now at the most important position on the field.

Before I give you my Week 11 picks and predictions, I just want to say thank you again to everyone who showed their support and concern for the Hurricane Sandy victims out here in Long Island. Again, if you can, please donate to the Red Cross, as so many people are displaced in shelters or freezing or hungry or homeless.

Now, onto the picks!

Home teams are shown in CAPs

Thursday Night Football:

BUFFALO (-1.5) over Miami — The Bills showed some life last week, Miami didn’t. The points don’t scare me here, and neither do the Dolphins. Bills win 24-19

Sunday:

Arizona (+9.5) over ATLANTA — The Falcons should bounce back from their first loss of the season, but the question is by how much? Falcons win 31-23

Cleveland (+7.5) over DALLAS — The Cowboys finally found a team on a worse roll than them last week to beat up. I sense a little bit of a letdown here that gives the Browns the cover, and maybe even a chance to win. Cowboys win 28-21

WASHINGTON (-3.5) over Philadelphia — The Eagles burned me last week. Now, their losing streak is entering epic territory, especially with Michael Vick out as QB. Redskins win 27-17

*LOCK IT UP: Green Bay (-3.5) over DETROIT — The Packers will be well-rested and they need this game to gain some ground on the Bears. Packers win 34-24

*LOCK IT UP: Tampa Bay (-0.5) over CAROLINA — The Buccaneers have really played well lately, and Cam Newton still doesn’t know how to win consistently, if at all, in the NFL. Bucs win 23-20

*UNTOUCHABLE SPREAD OF THE WEEK: HOUSTON (-15.5) over Jacksonville — No way I am touching that spread, mismatches or not. But if I had to pick… Texans win 31-10

Cincinnati (-3.5) over KANSAS CITY — The Chiefs played hard against the Steelers on Monday night, but after the Bengals picked apart the Giants I can’t see this game shaking out in any kind of surprising fashion. It will be a little close though against the spread. Bengals win 24-16

Indianapolis (+9.5) over NEW ENGLAND — Andrew Luck is not the kind of guy to be intimidated. Based on what I’ve seen from him this season, I think he relishes this kind of spotlight, rather than runs away from it. And you know what? The Pats aren’t unbeatable anymore as we’ve seen this season. Therefore, I am going with a flat-out upset. Colts win 29-26

*LOCK IT UP:/H2H SURVIVOR PICK: ST. LOUIS (-3.5) over NY Jets — The Jets can’t do or say anything right anymore. Rams win 24-13

New Orleans (-4.5) over OAKLAND — The Saints need every win they can get, so they can’t afford to slack off. Drew Brees wins out west. Saints win 31-23

DENVER (-7.5) over San Diego — Talk about two teams going in opposite directions. Division game scares me enough to not lock this up, but… Broncos win 42-20

Sunday Night Football:

Baltimore (-2.5) over PITTSBURGH — Love the Ravens to step up and take down Pittsburgh while Big Ben is hobbled. Ravens win 26-15

Monday Night Football:

SAN FRANCISCO (-5.5) over Chicago – The Bears are in a tough spot with Jay Cutler concussed. The Niners will show no mercy. Niners win 24-13

That’s all for this week’s edition of SLICED SPREAD.

I lost power last week due to Hurricane Sandy, and where I am in Long Island has just been chaos everywhere: the trains, the gas lines, the power outages, the stress, and the devastation.

If you can, please donate to the Red Cross, as so many people are displaced in shelters or freezing or hungry or homeless.

I am very fortunate to not have lost anything other than power for a few days, and while our infrastructure is weak, our spirit is resonant and our resolve remains strong.

To all of my fellow Northeasterners, I’m with you.

Now, onto our national distraction / escape known as the NFL:

Home teams are shown in CAPs

Thursday Night Football:

*LOCK IT UP: Indianapolis (-2.5) over JACKSONVILLE — Colts will dominate the worst home team in football. Colts win 23-9Sunday:

Tennessee (+6.5) over MIAMI — Love the Titans as underdogs, despite their blowout loss last week. Titans win 21-19

*LOCK IT UP: NEW ORLEANS (+2.5) over Atlanta — Trap game for Atlanta in New Orleans. Saints win 31-27

Denver (-3.5) over CAROLINA — The Broncos are on too much of a roll right now to be stopped by the Panthers. Broncos win 29-20

BALTIMORE (-9.5) over Oakland — Sorry Oakland. Ravens win 24-12

TAMPA BAY (-3.5) over San Diego — How good have the Bucs looked lately? Bucs win 31-21

Detroit (-0.5) over MINNESOTA — The Lions are back on track. They edge out the Vikings up north. Lions win 24-21

NY Giants (-3.5) over CINCINNATI — The Giants will be on a mission this week to put that loss to the Steelers behind them. They’ll do just that. Giants win 28-17

NEW ENGLAND (-11.5) over Buffalo — Sorry Buffalo. Patriots win 42-20

*H2H SURVIVOR PICK: SEATTLE (-6.5) over NY Jets — The Jets are as hapless as ever. Will they even score in Seattle? Seahawks win 24-6

*UNTOUCHABLE SPREAD OF THE WEEK: St. Louis (+11.5) over SAN FRANCISCO — This could backfire on me, but I sense a closer game than 11.5 points. Niners win 30-21

PHILADELPHIA (+0.5) over Dallas — Coin toss kind of pick, going with the home team. Eagles win 21-16

Sunday Night Football:

*LOCK IT UP: CHICAGO (-1.5) over Houston — LOVE the Bears at home this week in a statement game at Soldier Field. The Texans will fall to 7-2, slightly opening the door for those pesky Colts. Bears win 23-20

Monday Night Football:

PITTSBURGH (-12.5) over Kansas City — The Chiefs are this bad. Steelers win 20-3

Last week, I finished 6-7 against the spread, which would have been 7-6 if Jim Harbaugh bet on his own team to win against the spread. Then, he would have accepted those 2 points at the end of that Niners-Seahawks game last Thursday night and I would have been a little bit happier about the way the week went.

Either way, let’s take a look at this weeks proceedings, but first…

Onto the breakdown!

SLICED SPREAD: NFL WEEK 7 BREKADOWN

WEEK 7 ATS: 6-7
WEEK 7 LOCKS ATS: 2-1
WEEK 7 H2H SURVIVOR PICK: Win (Bears def. Lions)

THIS SEASON ATS: 47-57
THIS SEASON LOCKS ATS: 8-13

H2H SURVIVOR TEAMS USED:

Texans (Week 1, Win)
Patriots (Week 2, Loss)
Niners (Week 3, Loss)
Ravens (Week 4, Win)
Vikings (Week 5, Win)
Falcons (Week 6, Win)
Bears (Week 7, Win)

SLICED SPREAD: NFL WEEK 8 PICKS

Home teams are shown in CAPS
Point spreads shown in ()

THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL:

MINNESOTA (-6.5) over Tampa Bay Thursday nights have been kind to the home teams. Hopefully, this week it will be kind to those of use who are picking the home team against the spread. Vikings win 21-13

SUNDAY:

*H2H SURVIVOR PICK: GREEN BAY (-12.5) over Jacksonville — It looks like the Packers are heating up just in time to face those juggernaut (not) Jags! Packers win 35-12

Seattle (+1.5) over DETROIT — The Seahawks aren’t historically the greatest road team in the world, but this Seattle team is gritty enough to grind this game out against a Lions team I am not in love with. Seahawks win 20-14

*UNTOUCHABLE SPREAD OF THE WEEK: CHICAGO (-9.5) over Carolina — I love the Bears to win this week, but that is a pretty high spread against a Panthers team that will either explode for points or implode on the road. My best guess is the former in this case. Bears win 29-16

Washington (+4.5) over PITTSBURGH – The Redskins were very close to picking off the Giants last week. Even though they didn’t succeed in New York, I like their chances for a close-fought contest in Pittsburgh. Steelers win 23-21

PHILADELPHIA (-1.5) over Atlanta — This one has trap game all over it for the Falcons, especially with Andy Reid coming off a bye week. Eagles win 27-24

CLEVELAND (+1.5) over San Diego — The Chargers should win, right? Call this one a pure hunch on my part. Browns win 26-17

*LOCK IT UP: NY JETS (-1.5) over Miami — I love the Jets to bounce back from last week’s horrible loss at New England, why? Because they are the better team and Tannehill is a huge step down from Brady. The Jets’ defense dominates here. Jets win 23-13

TENNESSEE (-3.5) over Indianapolis — I was very proud in calling the Titans to win last week over Buffalo. I think the reignited Chris Johnson runs wild once again. Titans win

*LOCK IT UP: New England (-6.5) over ST. LOUIS — The Patriots just have too many weapons for the Rams to handle, especially in the dome. Patriots win 34-20

Oakland (+1.5) over KANSAS CITY — Will anyone watch this game outside of hometown fans? Division game or not, I say: “Next!” Raiders win 21-17

*LOCK IT UP: NY Giants (-0.5) over DALLAS — We’ve come a long way from Week 1, haven’t we? The unstoppable Eli Manning certainly has. Giants win 31-19

SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL:

New Orleans (+6.5) over DENVER —
It’s the battle of the commercial quarterbacks and yet another prime time showdown for the Broncos. I like the points … and a Saints win in a shootout. Saints win 31-28

MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL:

San Francisco (-6.5) over ARIZONA — The Cardinals have definitely lost their early season mojo, while the Niners are simply build for the whole season. Niners win 28-20

That’s all for this week’s edition of SLICED SPREAD.

See you next week – CB.

Again, I have no time for the full breakdown of last week’s action, so I may just make that a biweekly or monthly feature so I can at least give you my picks every week without a huge time delay.

Last week, I posted a 5-9 record ATS, but it could have been worse. Thank you Dallas and Denver for two miraculous covers that staved off some of the bleeding.

SLICED SPREAD: NFL WEEK 7 PICKS
Home teams are shown in CAPS
Point spreads shown in ().

THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL:

SAN FRANCISCO (-7.5) over Seattle – The Ninerswill be refocused this week and on a short week the Seahawks will be traveling into a bad situation. I think San Francisco will take Russell Wilson out of the equation early and this will be a blowout. Of course, wackier things have happened on Thursday nights already, so no lock on this one. Niners win 31-16

SUNDAY:

Cleveland (+3.5) over INDIANAPOLIS – The Browns had their coming out party last week, and while they will not be setting the world on fire, I do like them to keep this one close. The Colts are still a good team but I like the points even if Indy defends their home turf here. Colts win 17-14

*LOCK IT UP: Baltimore (+7.5) over HOUSTON –Yes, the Ravens are hobbled if not desecrated by injuries. However, they are still a spirited bunch and even if they lose to a solid Texans team, they will go down swinging. Texans win 24-20

*LOCK IT UP: Green Bay (-4.5) over ST. LOUIS –The Packers are back, and in the dome on the road I love their chances to really prove to the Rams and everyone watching that they aren’t throwing away 2012 just yet. Packers win 34-20

*LOCK IT UP: New Orleans (-2.5) over TAMPA BAY – I knew the Bucs would pounce on the horrid Chiefs last week. I also suspect that the Saints are more rejuvenated right now and I like Drew Brees’ chances (just like Aaron Rodgers) for a nice little comeback story this season. Saints win 27-24

Washington (+6.5) over NY GIANTS – Yes, the Giants just CRUSHED the Niners last week in San Francisco, proving that last year’s NFC title win was no fluke. New York also lost to the Redskins twice last year, and that was before the RGIII era was in effect. Giants win but this one’s closer than everyone thinks.Giants win 27-24

CAROLINA (+1.5) over Dallas – The Cowboys miraculously covered the spread while simultaneously blowing the game last week. After that big of a heartbreaker, I feel a letdown coming that will benefit the well-rested home dogs. Panthers win 23-19

Tennessee (+3.5) over BUFFALO – Chris Johnson woke up last week. I think this one will be a tight battle of solid RBs and mistake-prone QBs squaring off against each other up north. The Bills take it late.Bills win 24-23

Arizona (+6.5) over MINNESOTA – The Arizona Cardinals seem to always play in close contests this season. Given that trend I have to take the points (barely) regardless of the QB switch. Vikings win 26-20

OAKLAND (-4.5) over Jacksonville – Many folks think Oakland will be too heartbroken from last week’s tough loss to bounce back. I disagree given that they are playing the near-hapless Jaguars of all teams. The Raiders roll out west at home. Raiders win 29-17

*UNTOUCHABLE SPREAD OF THE WEEK: NY Jets (+10.5) over NEW ENGLAND – The angry Pats could demolish the Jets by 30 points … or the Jets can show up to play some hardnosed football against their no longer invincible most hated rivals. It really could go either way, but I think the Jets hang around on this one. Patriots win 31-24

SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL:

CINCINNATI (+2.5) over Pittsburgh – The Steelers are just as banged up as the Ravens, but I think after last week’s trap game loss the Bengals will be ready to conquer Big Ben in an upset. Bengals win 20-17

MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL:

*H2H SURVIVOR PICK: CHICAGO (-5.5) over Detroit – The Bears are well-rested and even though I know the Lions are a solid team, I just have that feeling that Chicago will pull out all the stops on Monday night defensively while Jay Cutler shines on the offensive side of the ball. I can’t call it a complete route, but it is my survivor pick of the week. Bears win 28-16

That’s all for this week’s edition of SLICED SPREAD.

See you next week – CB.
