The second round voting has ended and there were a TON of upsets! Even one of the #1 seeds went down this round. So lets see who is moving on to the next round!

The ABC Region lost three of its top seeds. The biggest was the #2 seed Finn and Rachel from Glee losing to Neal and Peter from White Collar. The #5 seed Adam and Kristina Braverman from Parenthood got blown out by Dean and Sam from Supernatural. Jax and Tara from Sons of Anarchy, the #6 seed, also got eliminated by Hank and Nick from Grimm. The majority of the winners from this region won by at least 60%. The closest matchup was the #8 seed, the girls from Pretty Little Liars, edging out the duo from NCIS: LA. There are only three seeds left here.

The FOX region also lost three of its top seeds. The #4 seed Cam and Mitchell from Modern Family lost to another comedy couple, Lily and Marshall from How I Met Your Mother. The #6 seed Cersei Lannister and Tyrion Lannister from Game of Thrones were no match for David and Brian from New Normal. In the closest matchup from this round, the #7 seed Matthew and Mary from Downton Abbey lost by only 2 votes to Peter and Olivia from Fringe. There are five seeds left in this region, and most of them are near the top, so this region is definitely the one that has went down mostly as expected.

The CBS region only lost two top seeds this round, but this region saw most of its top seeds get eliminated in the first two rounds. The biggest elimination in this round was the #2 seed, the love quad from True Blood, losing by just 20 votes to Shawn and Gus from Psych. The biggest blow out was actually the #6 seed Brody and Carrie from Homeland getting destroyed by Kurt and Blaine from Glee, who won with 89% of the vote. In fact the majority of the winners in this region won by at least 80% of the vote including Brennan/Booth from Bones, Prince Charming/Snow White from Once Upon a Time, Catherine/Vincent from Beauty and the Beast, and Barney and Robin from How I Met Your Mother.

Finally, the NBC region was “Upset Central”. When we started the second round, all 8 top seeds were still alive. As we enter the third round, there are only 2 top seeds left! The biggest upset was the #1 seed Tony and Ziva from NCIS losing to Sheldon and Amy from The Big Bang Theory. The other Big Bang Theory couple, the #4 seed Penny and Leonard, lost by 14 votes to Santanna and Brittany from Glee. Also losing this round were the #3 seed Daniel and Emily from Revenge, #5 seed Rick and Carl Grimes from The Walking Dead, #6 seed Bobby and J.R. Ewing from Dallas, and #7 seed Don Draper and Peggy Olson from Mad Men. They each lost by a fairly wide margin, but no winner had more than 68% of the vote, so no big blowouts here. However, only the #2 seed and #8 seed remain in this region.

We started with 32 top seeds and we are now down to only 13. In fact there are only two match ups this round that feature two seeds facing off, and they are both #1 vs. #8 seed match ups. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t some exciting battles this round. There are plenty of “upset” couples facing off against each other now. Some of them have to keep their “Cinderella” runs going.

The first round voting has ended and 5 of the 32 top seeds went down. Two of them I would call MAJOR upsets. Lots of competition elsewhere with everything from blowouts to one matchup coming down to a single vote. Lets break down the first round action.

The ABC Region featured 2 upsets. The biggest one was the #4 seed, Walter White and Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad, losing to Arrow and Laurel from Arrow! The margin of victory was only 57% to 43%, but somehow a couple from a new CW show defeated a couple from a multi-time Emmy award winning cable show. The next upset was the #7 seed, Nucky Thompson and Margaret Schroeder from Boardwalk Empire, losing to Melissa Burke and Joe Longo from Melissa & Joey. The margin of victory for this matchup was not even close, 70% to 30%. Obviously, this was a case of a cable show having a larger following than a premium HBO show, at least for this tournament. The biggest margin of victories from this region were the #1 seed, Richard Castle and Kate Beckett from Castle, and Dean and Sam from Supernatural. These couples each won by over 80%. The girls from Pretty Little Liars only defeated the NCIS: LA duo by 20 votes in the closet matchup from this region.

The FOX Region went pretty much as expected. The top 8 seeds all moved on to the next round. In fact, most of the winners from this region won fairly easily with at least 70% of the vote. The biggest blowout was Lily and Marshall from How I Met Your Mother winning by 91% over the Switched at Birth couple. The closest matchup was a small surprise as the longest running couple in the entire tournament, Homer and Marge Simpson only won by 14 votes over The Mentalist couple.

The CBS region has been completely blown up already! Three of the top 8 seeds from this region lost in the first round. The biggest upset had to be the Beauty and the Beast couple defeated the #4 seed, Phil and Claire Dunphy from Modern Family! The fact that they won by a wide margin was definitely surprising. Also losing were the #8 seed, Michael and Fiona from Burn Notice, and the #5 seed, the guys from Two and a Half Men. The biggest blowout was the #1 seed, Brennan and Booth from Bones, who easily defeated the couple from Army Wives by 94%. The closest win was Riley and Evan Parks from The Client List winning by just 17 votes over Hank and Evan R. Lawson from Royal Pains.

The NBC Region also went as you would have predicted. The top seeds all won here. Most of the match ups were complete blowouts with the #2 seed, Jess and Nick from New Girl, winning by the biggest margin of 92%. But there were 2 VERY close match ups in this region. The #7 seed, Don Draper and Peggy Olson from Mad Men, beat June and Chloe from Don’t Trust the B by 12 votes. Then, there was the battle between Andy and Sam from Rookie Blue and Fitz and Olivia from Scandal. It went back and forth, but in the end 1 vote decided the winner with Andy and Sam pulling out the victory.

It certainly was an interesting first round with some surprising upsets. But now the second round voting has begun. We have 64 couple left, so go vote and remember to tell everyone you know to vote too!

It’s that time again! It’s the month of March and it’s time once again for the annual Inside Pulse TV Tournament! The biggest and most talked about tournament during “March Madness” season is still the NCAA Basketball championship tournament, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t any room for other tournaments out there. More importantly, there will always be room and time in your life to fill out more brackets that everyone loves. Do you really have anything else better to do today? I doubt it.

Everyone loves brackets and television. We proved that the last three years when we got hundreds of thousands of votes each weeks in our “Best Show on Television Tournament” in 2010 and 2012, and “Best Television Character Tournament” in 2011. Back in 2010, Chuck was the ultimate winner over Burn Notice. In 2012, The Walking Dead ended up walking over Modern Family for the Best TV Show crown. In 2011, Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory barely defeated Barson Stinson from How I Met Your Mother to win the first TV character tournament. This year we are changing things up a little bit.

No one successful television show has lived on star power alone. There might have been one name that stuck when a show first started, but if a show is going to survive more than one season, it has to have an ensemble of actors and characters. Every great show has had that in common. More importantly, there is usually a “couple” or a team of characters that are the heart of every show. Without these characters, the show wouldn’t work. So this year we are going to crown the “Best Television Show Couple”! 

When you think of television couples, you usually think of a great romantic couple. Most shows have a couple of characters that start out as friends or just acquaintances, and they tease viewers with the “will they or won’t they” storyline. As in will they get together or not. But there have been other great “couples” that have been just friends or simple related to each other in one way or another. In fact, you could have hated enemies that would be considered a “great couple”. So in this tournament, you will find all kinds of couples, from romantic couples to family members, just friends and even hated enemies. There are even a pair of identical twins.

It should be noted how these characters were able to qualify for this tournament. First, the show that these characters were on had to have an aired a new episode since June 2012. Characters from shows that aired new episodes earlier in 2012 would only be eligible, if there were going have new episodes earlier in 2013. So some cable and premium channel shows that finished a season before June 2012, but were coming back this year with new episodes, would be eligible. So basically to qualify for this tournament, characters must be from a TV show that has aired a new episode since June 2012, and is either airing right now or will air new episodes later this year.

Now here is how the qualifying characters were selected. First, I looked at all of the shows that were eligible and came up with one or more “couples” that make that show work. It should be noted that in some cases I couldn’t single out just 2 people. So from certain shows there will be 3 or 4 people grouped together. I felt the relationship between those people were what made the show. So before you ask, in this tournament a “couple” can mean more than 2 people. But for the most part, it is just two people. I narrowed down the list of couples to 128. Yes, that is a lot, but there are a lot of shows on TV and a lot of couples out there. I eventually picked out the top 32 couples. Those couples were the ONLY ones to actually be seeded. They each get one of the top 8 seeds in the 4 different regions. The other couples were basically placed in the bracket in random order. Some couples had more “weight” than others, but depending on how you look at it, there might be few upsets in this tournament. The only time you could truly call it an upset is if one of the top 32 seeds loses in the early rounds of the tournament.

A few more things before we get to the bracket. Just like the real NCAA Tournament, there were some couples from automatic qualifying shows. They might have been in lesser conferences i.e. networks, but they each won their network tournament to earn a spot in the championship tournament. So you will see a few shows from each of the “lesser” cable networks with a few more from the “upper” cable and premium networks. But the majority of shows come from ABC, FOX, NBC, CBS, and THE CW. Even with 128 couples, I’m sure there are still some of your favorites that didn’t make it into the field. But the majority of your favorites should be there. The battle between #1 Modern Family and #2 The Big Bang Theory was a tight one. It looked like The Bang Theory was going to pull off the victory. But some late votes for Modern Family proved to be the difference. Modern Family won, but just barely, with only 51% of the vote.

The Cinderella Story continues as The Walking Dead has pulled off another upset. But it didn’t look like that in the beginning. Burn Notice was on cruise control early. It was well on its way to victory, until Walking Dead fans woke up and voted for that show by the hundreds. In the end, The Walking Dead easily won this matchup with 68% of the vote.

The Walking Dead has defeated a #1, #2, #3, and #5 seed on its way to the final round. Modern Family defeated two #2 seeds, a #4, and #8 seed on its way to the finals. Can the cable drama with less viewers defeat one of the most watched and most beloved comedies on TV for the crown of “Best Show on Television Today”? Only you can decide!

The final matchup of the ABC Region saw the #2 seed Big Bang Theory defeat the #1 seed Breaking Bad. It wasn’t really much of a contest as BBT won with 64% of the vote. This simply came down to the major network show having more viewers and votes than a cable show, because if every voter would have seen both shows the result would likely be the opposite. That’s just my opinion, though.

The final matchup of the FOX Region also had another lopsided #1 vs. #2 seed battle. This time it was the #1 seed Modern Family taking down the #2 seed New Girl. This came down to an established award-winning comedy beating a brand new comedy. Modern Family has a two year head start on New Girl and that showed in the voting results as Modern Family won with 75% of the vote.

The CBS Region has been officially blown up. It came down to 2 votes, but the unseeded show, The Walking Dead, has moved on to the Final Four. The last remaining seed from this region, #5 Justified, almost came back but its comeback wasn’t enough. The Walking Dead has defeated a #2, #3, and #5 seed to get to the Final Four. Now it will have to face a #1 seed.

The final matchup of the NBC Region was another no contest. #1 Burn Notice easily defeated #3 True Blood with 78% of the vote. The likely reason behind this victory could be simply that Burn Notice is a basic cable show and True Blood is on the premium pay channel HBO.

So looking ahead to the Final Four, we have a couple of interesting matchups. One matchup features a #1 vs. #2 seed. Both Modern Family and Big Bang Theory are on major networks, ABC and CBS respectively. On the other side of the bracket we have two cable shows facing off. One is a #1 seed that has been nearly unstoppable, Burn Notice. Its opponent is the unseeded, The Walking Dead, that has surprised everyone by looking unbeatable as well. One of them has to lose in this round, though.

The ABC Region has held true to form. The final matchup of this region will feature a #1 vs. #2 matchup. #1 Breaking Bad defeated #4 The Office by just 3 votes. A close call for sure. #2 The Big Bang Theory didn’t have much of a problem defeating #3 Parks and Recreation, though. Big Bang Theory had twice as many votes as Parks and Recreation. This leads to an interesting Cable show drama vs. CBS sitcom battle.

The final matchup of the FOX Region will also feature a #1 vs. #2 matchup. The results were also pretty similar. #1 Modern Family had an easy time with #4 Chuck winning with 71% of the vote, the most of any winner from this round. On the other hand, #2 New Girl won by just 4 votes over #3 Once Upon A Time. We are left with two major network sitcoms battling here.

The CBS Region was almost completely blown up. But it still doesn’t look like any of the other regions. Another top ranked show, #2 Dexter, has been eliminated. The unranked show, The Walking Dead, continued its Cinderella run by beating Dexter by 4 votes. In another close matchup, Criminal Minds almost made it a unranked final. But #5 Justified pulled out the victory by just 1 vote. So from this region only one seeded show is left, and it’s a #5 seed at that. A couple of cable channel dramas will now fight for their chance to make it to the Final Four.

The NBC Region also pretty much looks like you would expect. It will feature a #1 vs. #3 matchup in the final. #1 Burn Notice won with 62% of the vote against #4 How I Met Your Mother. #3 True Blood won the battle of the premium channel shows by 9 votes over the unranked Weeds. So that finally leads to a cable show drama vs. premium channel drama.

So out of the final 8 shows, 7 of them were ranked. Two matchups will feature the top seeds from those regions facing off. Another has a #1 vs. #3. Then, there is one region that features a couple of wildcard shows. If you really look at it, it’s pretty similar to what the real NCAA Basketball Tournament looks like this year. Just 5 dramas and 3 comedies left.

One last interesting thing to note. There is only 1 channel that has more than 1 show among the final 8 shows. If you would guess that channel, it probably would take about 8 guesses before you could get it right, though. Maybe more than that. The cable channel, AMC, is the only channel with 2 shows in the final 8. FOX, ABC, and CBS each have 1 show left. As does the USA Network, FX, and HBO.

How hard was it transitioning from the cheery Mona to the dark twisted Mona that was shown on Monday night?

Janel Parrish: It was definitely the most challenging part and also the most fun part was transitioning from this bubbly character that I’ve played for two years to this dark, psychopath character that I’ve never in my life played before. That’s what made it so appealing was that it was a challenge. It was fun and I had to just kind of let go of this character that I’ve built for two years and create a new one and just go there. That’s what was really, really fun.

You’ve probably had plenty of suspicions that you were “A” because Mona was “A” in the books to begin with, but when did you first actually found out that you were “A”?

JP: Well I had an idea during the pilot because I read the books, and since I was “A in the books. I’d asked the producers if I was “A” and they were being very coy and saying that I could be “A” but things could change since we’re not following the books exactly. I’d always kind of put it in the back of my mind that I could be “A” and I found out officially the week that we were filming the finale. We got the scripts a week before we started filming it. I read it and I was super excited. It was surreal and it was really hard not to tell anyone that I was “A.”

Has they given you any sort of details about what you’re going to be doing in Season 3 yet that you can share?

JP: I do know that the Season 3 premiere will take place six months after Maya’s body was found, so it’s the second anniversary of Alison’s death. Mona will have been in the Radley Sanatorium for the last six months. She’ll get a mysterious visitor. You’ll find out more about that and there will just be more answers and connecting the dots.

The episode kept us jumping from suspect to suspect, but before you found out for sure, was there a moment in the scripts that you became absolutely convinced that you were “A”? Was a there a moment you always look back on and, “I just have to be ‘A’?”

JP: I started to suspect that it was me once I started getting texts from “A.” That does happen in the books and I know that Mona was sending them to herself, so I had a feeling that that’s where they were headed with it. Like I said, they never confirmed that I was “A” until I got the script, so I was trying not to get my hopes up too high.

Mona mostly had scenes with Hanna, but these past few episodes you were getting more in with the other girls and Caleb. Is there anyone in the cast that you haven’t had too many scenes with yet that you’d like to see Mona interact with the upcoming season?

JP: Interestingly enough, the creator Marlene King, has said that people will start having scenes with each other that you didn’t even know knew each other, so I’m excited. I think a lot of people in Rosewood are connected that the viewers don’t know about yet, so we’re going to start to see all of that come to light in Season 3. I do think I’m going to have some scenes with people I’ve never had scenes with before, which is always fun to work with new people.

How is the revelation that Mona is “A” going to affect her friendship with Hanna?

JP: It’s safe to say their friendship is ruined. I kind of hope to see a showdown. I think that would be awesome. If Mona and Hanna meet face-to-face, I think it would be a very interesting interaction so I’m hoping Marlene gives that to me. It would be fun.

We learned at the very end of the finale that there might be a “Team A,” so what are we going to learn about “Team A” and Mona’s mysterious visitor in Season 3?

JP: You will definitely learn about that in Season 3. I don’t know exactly when. I know that they’ve started writing the episodes. I have not seen anything yet. I’m super excited to see where it’s going, but yes, Season 3 is going to start to get crazy.

Throughout the series there have been some hints that you were “A.” Can you tell us what any of those were?

JP: Definitely. I think once you look back now that you know who’s “A” you’d definitely find some sly little hints in there. Definitely the scenes where I’m helping Emily hack into the vice principal’s system to find out that he was bribed definitely shows that Mona had some technical skills that people didn’t know about. It also shows that she has a little bit of a devious side.

There is a scene where Mona finds out that Jenna is dating Noel and I saw in the script they wanted me to have a moment where I just looked very angry. I remember it said something like, “Mona is …, and not just in a ‘you stole my boyfriend kind of … off way,’” and that was kind of telling to me that they wanted me to show a different side. I think, yes, if you go back and watch some of the episodes you’d find some hints.

How are you going to be playing this role differently now that you know that she’s such a sinister character?

JP: Well, I think that kind of depends on what the writers give me because I’m not sure where they’re going to take this. I kind of need to get the script and see how I prepare, but I know when I did get the script for the finale it was totally different. My whole mindset of how to play the character was completely changed.

It’s really just, like I said earlier, letting go of everything that I’ve created for this character for two years. Everything that I’ve built upon for this character doesn’t really matter anymore. Unless there are flashbacks of me as that Mona, I’m now creating a new character. It’s really exciting and I’m excited to see where it goes.

Where do you want to see Mona go? Do you want to just see her completely unhinged in Series 3 or seeking redemption? How would you like that to play out?

JP: I’d love to see her seek redemption. I’d love it if she could just break out and go crazy and wreak some havoc on Rosewood, but I can honestly tell you I have no idea where it’s going to go. That would be my choice.

We found Maya’s body at the end of the episode. Do you know if “A” was involved in that murder in any way? Was she texting Emily all along like with Melissa and Ian?

JP: I think all of those things will definitely be revealed in Season 3, but like I said, nothing is unconnected in Rosewood. It’s a creepy little town. There are creepy little people in it, so I wouldn’t be surprised if everything is connected in some way. I just don’t’ know to what extent yet.

Pretty Little Liars is so good at having subtle little details in each episode like the blonde in the red dress from the finale last night. Can you talk about how it affects the storyline as whole?

JP: I think it definitely keeps people guessing and suspecting everyone in the show, which is fun. It keeps people tuning in to find out what’s happening and I think once the pieces are put together it’s that much more fulfilling because people say, “Oh, I remember when in this episode this happened and that happened. Now it makes sense,” and then it’s rewarding when you have the answers.

Mona is one of the most complex characters on the show because her screen time is more limited. How do you feel like that helped her keep up the secret of being “A”?

JP: I think it was very effective because the fact that I wasn’t always everywhere, I wasn’t readily in the public eye, people can’t say, “Oh, it must be Mona. She’s always around.” They’re very smart with the way that they had my character kind of pop in and out every now and then and make an appearance and leave and then kind of start to build upon my character at the end showing me working my way into the group of girls before the big reveal. I think the writers have been really, really smart with that.

How hard was it to keep it a secret that you were “A” once you found out?

JP: It was so hard. I had such an amazing time filming the finale and I just wanted to be able to tell everyone about it. Torrey and I got to do stunts. It was amazing. I got to be creepy in a mental hospital and I just wanted to tell everyone, but it was really rewarding that I didn’t tell everyone because last night when people got to see it they were very, very excited.

If Pretty Little Liars were to have a crossover with another show, which show would you like “A” to wreak havoc on?

JP: Revenge. I love that show so much.

Are you surprised that the TV show followed the book so closely and do you think that people who are watching it are surprised that it was Mona in the end?

JP: I am not surprised that we did follow the books in that way. I like the way they did it because it is such a big part of the books that Mona is “A” that I think fans probably would have been upset if they would have changed that, but I think that the way they revealed it went a little different than the books. Obviously, I didn’t die like I did in the books. I survived and they’re taking it in another direction. I think it’s actually great because the book fans get what they have been hoping for and been wanting and expecting, but they get a little bit more of a twist to keep them excited.

Since we were just talking about fan feedback, how has the fan feedback been since you were revealed? Have you been on Twitter and seeing what people are saying?

JP: Yes. I’ve been on Twitter. It’s crazy. A lot of it has been great. People are very excited that I’m “A” and they want to see where it goes. A lot of them said that they knew. A lot of them were shocked.

Some of them I guess feel a little disappointed because I guess they were under the impression that it would be different from the books, but really we’ve never said that “A” would be different from the books. We said that the reveal would be different and it kind of was. It didn’t happen exactly the way it went in the books. They will have nothing to worry about because there will be a lot more surprises coming their way.

Now that you know for sure that Mona was “A,” are there any scenes looking back you wish you’d have played differently or that maybe you would play differently now that you know the truth?

JP: Interestingly enough, I did go to Marlene King at one point and she gave me a scene. I went up to her and I said, “Is there a certain way you want me to play this because you haven’t really told me 100% that I am “A” yet? I don’t know if you want me to play these scenes differently or if you want me to keep doing what I’m doing. What do you need from me to make your big plan work?” She just said, “Keep doing what you’re doing. We’re giving you these scenes for a reason. Do your thing. We love all your instincts and everything will make sense in the end.” It was kind of nice because I feel like I never really had to worry about it. I just did the material the way they gave it to me and let them kind of guide me.

When you read the part of the script a week before shooting where Mona falls off of the cliff you said you were very excited to find out that you were going to be “A,” but was your excitement ever dampened? That brief moment where you see she falls off a cliff did you think, “Oh, well they just killed me off?”

JP: Absolutely. Definitely, especially because in the books that’s what happens is I pull the car over, Spence and I get into a fight, and she pushes me and I fall off a cliff and I die. When I read that my heart definitely stopped for a second and I thought, “Oh, great, this is my last episode of Pretty Little Liars,” until I found out that they saved my life and kept me in the show. I’m just so grateful to still be a part of it.

How did the rest of the cast react when you guys all found that out?

JP: Differently. Some of them were very shocked. Some of them had suspicions from the beginning. Overall, everyone was just extremely excited. It was the most intense episode we’ve ever had and everyone felt the excitement, even in the table read room. It was very exciting.

At the end we see Mona talking to the girl in the red coat. Does that mean that we can expect more than one “A,” especially since you talked about “Team A?” Is the black swan involved somehow?

JP: Yes. You’re definitely going to see connections between everyone and I think Season 3 will focus more upon that.

Do you have a favorite moment from filming, whether it be behind the scenes or something you were doing that they might be interested in knowing?

JP: My favorite scene is definitely when Spencer and I grapple because we had just so much fun doing those stunts together. We definitely had a couple giggles before the cameras got on us so it was super fun and then falling off the hill that was fun. They put pads down and I was kind of scared every time, but it was super fun.

In a way, Pretty Little Liars is about mean girl politics gone to the extremes. Have you had any personal experiences with mean girls?

JP: Oh, definitely. I live in Los Angeles and I’m in the entertainment business. I think every girl, especially like high schoolers, can really relate to the show because you have to deal with people bullying you and making you feel bad about yourself every day. You just have to have confidence in yourself and be strong. I think young girls can definitely relate to the show.

How did Mona know about Aria and Ezra? I don’t think we quite find out how she got all the information.

JP: Yes. I think a lot of those questions will definitely be answered in Season 3. I don’t even know 100% how Mona gets everything. She definitely mentioned an “A Team” so that’s a possibility and you know she also had Alison’s diary. That’s how she knew about a lot of past things, but as far as a lot of the present things they did mention that Hanna’s phone was set to record every time it would turn on so obviously she can hear what’s going on. As far as everything else, she may have help and we find more about that in Season 3.

If you could choose the character that you would like to see Mona just lose her mind on next season who would you choose to take the biggest revenge on?

JP: Oh, man, probably Hanna just because I feel like she’s the easiest target and she’s the most vulnerable right now. I would love to see a cat fight.

Do you have any favorite “A” moments and did any of those change now that you know it was Mona?

JP: Favorite “A” moments? It’s hard. I’m trying to remember all of them, so creepy. I love when “A” sends an exterminator to their house and says that there is some type of infestation in Hanna’s basement because Caleb’s living there. I love that. “A” has done some creepy stuff.

If you had to pick one other person to be “A” instead of Monda, who were you kind of hoping if it wasn’t you?

JP: My first suspect before I knew it was me was probably Jenna. She would make a creepy “A.”

Do you have to get into different mindsets when playing Mona and “A?”


JP: Absolutely. It was funny Marlene one of the first things she said to me when I was getting ready to do my first scene as “A” was, “Make sure you don’t do your sing song talk voice that you do for Mona.” I had to make sure that I completely changed my vocal inflection, which is hard for me because I kind of sing song everything anyway.

It was different getting into a different mindset and I actually go to play three different characters in the finale – the dorky Mona, popular Mona, and crazy Mona. Kind of like an actor’s dream. It was really fun. It was like a workshop for me.

What has been the most challenging thing for you filming the show so far, other than keeping “A” a secret?

JP: The most challenging thing probably just playing such a complex character with different levels. I didn’t want to make her just the stereotypical bubble gum mean girl. I wanted to give her more layers and give her a reason for why she was the way that she was.

If Mona or “A” was ever to get a love interest, who of the current guys would you like to see her with?

JP: Since I’ve been asked this before, I’m going to use the same answer. The new guy Duncan is really cute.

If Mona were to get with another girl on the show, who would you want her to get with?

JP: Come on, Emily. She’s hot.

Your transformation last night happened when you put on that hoodie. Is that how you’re going to prepare going forward to just transform yourself into this Voldemort-type character by putting on the hoodie?

JP: That would be cool. If they have it there for me every time it would be a good preparation choice definitely. No, but it was really cool the first time I put the hoodie on and I looked at myself in the mirror and it was like this is going to be really creepy and weird.

The ABC Region saw all of its top 4 seeds make it to the round of 16. Breaking Bad, The Office, and The Big Bang Theory each won by at least 60% of the vote. But the matchup between Fringe and Parks and Recreation came down to a single vote. In the end, Parks and Recreation pulled out the victory. The Big Bang Theory was the biggest winner from this region but it was only with 66% of the vote.

The top 4 seeds from the FOX Region also advanced. But there were two matchups that came down to less than 5 votes. Chuck defeated The Voice by just 3 votes. Once Upon A Time then defeated Mad Men by 5 votes. Modern Family was the biggest winner with 68% of the vote.

The CBS Region, which already has lost most of its top seeds in earlier rounds, lost its #1 seed in this round as well! Community loses by just 5 votes to the unseeded Criminal Minds. This was truly a shocker. The battle of the unseeded shows ended up being a no contest at all. The Walking Dead easily defeated Grimm with 75% of the vote. Dexter and Justified also easily won their matchups with at least 60% of the vote. This Region is definitely the most wide open with just a #2 and #5 seed left.

The NBC Region had 3 of its top seeds advance to the next round. Burn Notice and How I Met Your Mother each won their matchups with at least 60% of the vote. Burn Notice had the biggest margin of victory with 69%. The #3 seed True Blood actually had the closest margin of victory. It only won by 3 votes over Family Guy. The second battle between two unseeded shows was more of a battle. But in the end Weeds proved to be the king of Showtime when it defeated Homeland by just 7 votes.

So out of the final 16 shows, 13 of them are one of the top 32 seeds. The top half of the bracket again looks to be the most interesting as the four top seeds from each of those regions will face off. The same can be said for the NBC region, because it also has 3 of its top 4 seeds still in there as well. But down in the CBS Region, we will have a couple of battles between a seeded show and unseeded show. Can the these unseeded shows continue their Cinderella run to the Final Four?

It’s also interesting to note the network breakdown among the final 16 shows. CBS and NBC are tied with the most shows at 3 shows each. Another major network, ABC, is right behind them with 2 shows each. Two other networks, cable network, AMC, and premium channel, SHOWTIME, each have 2 shows in the final 16 as well. Then, we have FOX, FX, HBO, and USA Network rounding out things with 1 show each. There is also a fairly even balance of comedies and dramas.

The ABC Region only had 1 upset, though, and that was just the #8 seed Sons of Anarchy barely losing to South Park. The remaining top 7 seeds easily won their matchups with at least 60% of the vote. The Office had the most dominating win by defeating Hawaii Five-0 with 85% of the vote.

The FOX Region had ZERO upsets. All of the top 8 seeds advanced to the next round. Once Upon A Time had the closest call. New Girl and Curb Your Enthusiasm also had close fights. Modern Family had the most dominating victory. But that now sets up an interesting round 3 with all the top seeds battling it out in this round.

The CBS Region saw half of its top seeds go down! Besides #8 Smash losing to Criminal Minds, the #3, #4, and #6 seeds also lost. #3 White Collar, #4 Revenge, and #6 Glee all lost by 5 votes to The Walking Dead, Cougar Town, and Grimm, respectively. The remaining top seeds pretty much dominated their competition with Community having the largest margin of victory.

The NBC Region also had 4 of its top seeds lose as well. #2 Survivor was the victim of the biggest upset when it lost by 2 votes to a SHOWTIME show, Homeland. Other Surprise winners were Family Guy over #6 The Middle and Weeds over #7 American Horror Story. They each won by 2 votes as well. The most dominating upset was 30 Rock easily defeating #8 Top Chef. We could have easily saw 3 more upsets this round, though. #1 Burn Notice, #3 True Blood, and #5 Bones all barely got past their opponents with each only winning by 3 or 4 votes. So in a region that was almost completely blown up, How I Met Your Mother had the biggest margin of victory with only 67% of the vote.

We started with 32 top seeds and we are now down to 23. The top half of the bracket only had 1 upset between two regions. So we should see some exciting battles between top shows up there. But the bottom half of the bracket features 8 top seeds and 8 non-seeded shows. There are even two battles between two non-seeded shows including Weeds and Homeland squaring off. One of those SHOWTIME shows is guaranteed to make it the Sweet 16. The winner between unseeded Grimm and The Walking Dead will also advance to the final 16 as well. So there will at least be a couple of Cinderella shows looking to upset things more.
