But like I said from the beginning the numbers next to show names don’t mean a whole lot if they don’t get voted to the next round. There were also lots of close match ups. Quite a few match ups came down to a single vote. Lets take a look at the first round action.

The ABC Region saw two “upsets”. #4 Glee lost to Eastbound and Down with 60% of the vote. #5 Survivor had a bigger loss to Doctor Who, who won with 73% of the vote. The Walking Dead dominated as expected with a 90% win. Most of the rest of the match ups weren’t all that close. The only close match up was #3 New Girl barely getting by Bates Motel with a 54% win.

The FOX Region also saw the same two “upsets” as the ABC Region. #4 Downton Abbey lost by 63% to Arrested Development. #5 Chicago Fire also lost by 64% to Person of Interest. #1 Burn Notice, #2 Modern Family, #8 Family Guy, and South Park all dominated with over 80% wins. But the rest of the match ups in this region were extremely close. Revolution beat Falling Skies by 1 vote. Mike & Molly also won by 1 vote over White Collar. #3 The Blacklist barely survived over The Simpsons by 3 votes. Workaholics pulled off a third upset in this region by beating #7 2 Broke Girls by 2 votes. This was by far the closest and most upset region.

The CBS Region only had one upset. #6 Duck Dynasty lost by 2 votes to Sullivan & Son. #1 Breaking Bad dominated with a 88% win. #5 Game of Thrones won by a even larger 93%. But #2 How I Met Mother had the biggest margin of the victory in the first round with 94%. Homeland also had a big margin of victory. Most of the rest of the match ups were closer. The Vampire Diaries won by 1 vote over The Newsroom. True Blood won by 1 vote over The Daily Show. Nashville won by 2 votes over CSI. The Following also won by 4 votes over Rookie Blue.

The NBC Region was the only region to have no upsets, but most of the match ups were either really close or blowouts. #8 Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., #5 NCIS, and #6 Sons of Anarchy had over 90% wins each. Revenge, #3 Pretty Little Liars, #1 Big Bang Theory, and Community also had big 80% wins. But #4 Grey’s Anatomy and #2 Scandal were almost upset. Grey’s Anatomy beat Ray Donovan by 3 votes, and Scandal beat Men at Work by only 58% of the vote. NCIS: Los Angeles beat Supernatural by only 1 vote. Other close match ups included The Colbert Report with a 4 vote victory over Elementary, Last Man Standing with a 3 vote win over The Millers, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine with a 4 vote victory over Vikings.

So a few surprises in the first round, and a few upsets. One thing is for sure, reality shows were not treated very kindly in this tournament. Only two of them have moved on to the second round. But now things could get interesting. The second round voting has begun. We have 64 shows left, so go vote and remember to tell everyone you know to vote too!

If you don’t know what this is all about, go back to the First Round Voting Page and get all of the details there. If you did vote in the first round, you should already know, so go check out the updated bracket for yourself by going here:

2014 Inside Pulse Best Television Show Tournament Bracket

Remember, when you do place your votes in this tournament, you should always vote on what is the best show RIGHT NOW. Some of these shows have been around for years, but if they are not at the top of their game in their current season, and a newer show is, then you should vote for the newer show. Past performance might come into play, but you should judge these shows on their merits today.

Now on with the matchups and let the voting begin!

Get out your green beer! The biggest and most talked about tournament during the “March Madness” season is back! So stop working or pretending to work and take a look at this year’s bracket.

It’s been two years since the last “Best TV Show” tournament, but so much has changed in the world of TV. Roughly one-third of the shows that were in the 2012 “Best TV Show” tournament are no longer on the air. In addition, cable television and premium channel shows have gotten better while network television shows have stayed about the same. Maybe that is why for the first time last year all of the dramas nominated for an Emmy were not on network television. Lets not forget that this past year Netflix and Amazon have jumped into the original television scene as well. They have released some critically acclaimed shows that can’t be ignored. So lets get to this year’s tournament.

There are 128 shows in this year’s tournament, and believe it or not, it was tough to narrow it down that much. To qualify for this year’s tournament, a show had to have aired a new episode since June 2013. So that automatically disqualifies a few shows from HBO and SHOWTIME and a few cable shows who won’t be back with new seasons until later this year.

There are 32 seeded shows in the tournament. The seeds were selected based on four different criteria: live ratings, DVR ratings, awards, and most-talked about. If a show was watched by a lot people LIVE or on DVR within a few days; it was talked about a lot the next day on social networks; and it got nominated for awards, it likely was selected as a higher seed. The seeds really don’t mean a whole lot, though. If a show is better, just vote for that show.

A few more things before you get to the bracket. Just like the real NCAA Tournament, there were some automatic qualifying shows. They might have been in lesser conferences i.e. networks, but they each won their network tournament to earn a spot in the championship tournament. So you will see a few shows from each of the “lesser” cable networks with more from the “upper” cable and premium networks. But the majority of shows come from ABC, FOX, NBC, CBS, and CW. Even with 128 shows, I’m sure there are still some of your favorites that didn’t make it into the field. But the majority of your favorites should be there. Take a look at the bracket yourself by going here:

2014 Inside Pulse Best Television Show Tournament Bracket

Remember, when you do place your votes in this tournament, you should always vote on what is the best show RIGHT NOW. Some of these shows have been around for years, but if they are not at the top of their game in their current season, and a newer show is, then you should vote for the newer show. Past performance might come into play, but you should judge these shows on their merits today.

As you can see there are four different regions with 8 top seeds each, and 24 other shows. There are 64 matchups in the first round that need YOUR votes! So the time is now. Tell all your friends. It’s up to YOU to VOTE for which show you think is the best on TV. Make sure to vote for all the matchups as every vote counts.

The second round voting has ended and there were a TON of upsets! Even one of the #1 seeds went down this round. So lets see who is moving on to the next round!

The ABC Region lost three of its top seeds. The biggest was the #2 seed Finn and Rachel from Glee losing to Neal and Peter from White Collar. The #5 seed Adam and Kristina Braverman from Parenthood got blown out by Dean and Sam from Supernatural. Jax and Tara from Sons of Anarchy, the #6 seed, also got eliminated by Hank and Nick from Grimm. The majority of the winners from this region won by at least 60%. The closest matchup was the #8 seed, the girls from Pretty Little Liars, edging out the duo from NCIS: LA. There are only three seeds left here.

The FOX region also lost three of its top seeds. The #4 seed Cam and Mitchell from Modern Family lost to another comedy couple, Lily and Marshall from How I Met Your Mother. The #6 seed Cersei Lannister and Tyrion Lannister from Game of Thrones were no match for David and Brian from New Normal. In the closest matchup from this round, the #7 seed Matthew and Mary from Downton Abbey lost by only 2 votes to Peter and Olivia from Fringe. There are five seeds left in this region, and most of them are near the top, so this region is definitely the one that has went down mostly as expected.

The CBS region only lost two top seeds this round, but this region saw most of its top seeds get eliminated in the first two rounds. The biggest elimination in this round was the #2 seed, the love quad from True Blood, losing by just 20 votes to Shawn and Gus from Psych. The biggest blow out was actually the #6 seed Brody and Carrie from Homeland getting destroyed by Kurt and Blaine from Glee, who won with 89% of the vote. In fact the majority of the winners in this region won by at least 80% of the vote including Brennan/Booth from Bones, Prince Charming/Snow White from Once Upon a Time, Catherine/Vincent from Beauty and the Beast, and Barney and Robin from How I Met Your Mother.

Finally, the NBC region was “Upset Central”. When we started the second round, all 8 top seeds were still alive. As we enter the third round, there are only 2 top seeds left! The biggest upset was the #1 seed Tony and Ziva from NCIS losing to Sheldon and Amy from The Big Bang Theory. The other Big Bang Theory couple, the #4 seed Penny and Leonard, lost by 14 votes to Santanna and Brittany from Glee. Also losing this round were the #3 seed Daniel and Emily from Revenge, #5 seed Rick and Carl Grimes from The Walking Dead, #6 seed Bobby and J.R. Ewing from Dallas, and #7 seed Don Draper and Peggy Olson from Mad Men. They each lost by a fairly wide margin, but no winner had more than 68% of the vote, so no big blowouts here. However, only the #2 seed and #8 seed remain in this region.

We started with 32 top seeds and we are now down to only 13. In fact there are only two match ups this round that feature two seeds facing off, and they are both #1 vs. #8 seed match ups. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t some exciting battles this round. There are plenty of “upset” couples facing off against each other now. Some of them have to keep their “Cinderella” runs going.

If you don’t know what this is all about, go back to the First Round Voting Page and Second Round Voting Page and get all of the details there. If you did vote in the first two rounds, you should already know, so go check out the updated bracket for yourself by going here:

2013 Inside Pulse Best Television Show Couple Tournament Bracket

Remember, when you do place your votes in this tournament, you should always vote on who is the best TV couple RIGHT NOW. Some of these couples have been around for years, but some are brand new. This is not an All-Time tournament. This is as of right now, who is the best. And remember, what you are really voted on is which relationship is the best for that show? If you took out these characters from a show, would it be the same? If it wouldn’t, that is who you would vote for.

Now on with the matchups and let the voting begin!

The first round voting has ended and 5 of the 32 top seeds went down. Two of them I would call MAJOR upsets. Lots of competition elsewhere with everything from blowouts to one matchup coming down to a single vote. Lets break down the first round action.

The ABC Region featured 2 upsets. The biggest one was the #4 seed, Walter White and Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad, losing to Arrow and Laurel from Arrow! The margin of victory was only 57% to 43%, but somehow a couple from a new CW show defeated a couple from a multi-time Emmy award winning cable show. The next upset was the #7 seed, Nucky Thompson and Margaret Schroeder from Boardwalk Empire, losing to Melissa Burke and Joe Longo from Melissa & Joey. The margin of victory for this matchup was not even close, 70% to 30%. Obviously, this was a case of a cable show having a larger following than a premium HBO show, at least for this tournament. The biggest margin of victories from this region were the #1 seed, Richard Castle and Kate Beckett from Castle, and Dean and Sam from Supernatural. These couples each won by over 80%. The girls from Pretty Little Liars only defeated the NCIS: LA duo by 20 votes in the closet matchup from this region.

The FOX Region went pretty much as expected. The top 8 seeds all moved on to the next round. In fact, most of the winners from this region won fairly easily with at least 70% of the vote. The biggest blowout was Lily and Marshall from How I Met Your Mother winning by 91% over the Switched at Birth couple. The closest matchup was a small surprise as the longest running couple in the entire tournament, Homer and Marge Simpson only won by 14 votes over The Mentalist couple.

The CBS region has been completely blown up already! Three of the top 8 seeds from this region lost in the first round. The biggest upset had to be the Beauty and the Beast couple defeated the #4 seed, Phil and Claire Dunphy from Modern Family! The fact that they won by a wide margin was definitely surprising. Also losing were the #8 seed, Michael and Fiona from Burn Notice, and the #5 seed, the guys from Two and a Half Men. The biggest blowout was the #1 seed, Brennan and Booth from Bones, who easily defeated the couple from Army Wives by 94%. The closest win was Riley and Evan Parks from The Client List winning by just 17 votes over Hank and Evan R. Lawson from Royal Pains.

The NBC Region also went as you would have predicted. The top seeds all won here. Most of the match ups were complete blowouts with the #2 seed, Jess and Nick from New Girl, winning by the biggest margin of 92%. But there were 2 VERY close match ups in this region. The #7 seed, Don Draper and Peggy Olson from Mad Men, beat June and Chloe from Don’t Trust the B by 12 votes. Then, there was the battle between Andy and Sam from Rookie Blue and Fitz and Olivia from Scandal. It went back and forth, but in the end 1 vote decided the winner with Andy and Sam pulling out the victory.

It certainly was an interesting first round with some surprising upsets. But now the second round voting has begun. We have 64 couple left, so go vote and remember to tell everyone you know to vote too!

If you don’t know what this is all about, go back to the First Round Voting Page and get all of the details there. If you did vote in the first round, you should already know, so go check out the updated bracket for yourself by going here:

2013 Inside Pulse Best Television Show Couple Tournament Bracket

Remember, when you do place your votes in this tournament, you should always vote on who is the best TV couple RIGHT NOW. Some of these couples have been around for years, but some are brand new. This is not an All-Time tournament. This is as of right now, who is the best. And remember, what you are really voted on is which relationship is the best for that show? If you took out these characters from a show, would it be the same? If it wouldn’t, that is who you would vote for.

Now on with the matchups and let the voting begin!

It’s that time again! It’s the month of March and it’s time once again for the annual Inside Pulse TV Tournament! The biggest and most talked about tournament during “March Madness” season is still the NCAA Basketball championship tournament, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t any room for other tournaments out there. More importantly, there will always be room and time in your life to fill out more brackets that everyone loves. Do you really have anything else better to do today? I doubt it.

Everyone loves brackets and television. We proved that the last three years when we got hundreds of thousands of votes each weeks in our “Best Show on Television Tournament” in 2010 and 2012, and “Best Television Character Tournament” in 2011. Back in 2010, Chuck was the ultimate winner over Burn Notice. In 2012, The Walking Dead ended up walking over Modern Family for the Best TV Show crown. In 2011, Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory barely defeated Barson Stinson from How I Met Your Mother to win the first TV character tournament. This year we are changing things up a little bit.

No one successful television show has lived on star power alone. There might have been one name that stuck when a show first started, but if a show is going to survive more than one season, it has to have an ensemble of actors and characters. Every great show has had that in common. More importantly, there is usually a “couple” or a team of characters that are the heart of every show. Without these characters, the show wouldn’t work. So this year we are going to crown the “Best Television Show Couple”!

When you think of television couples, you usually think of a great romantic couple. Most shows have a couple of characters that start out as friends or just acquaintances, and they tease viewers with the “will they or won’t they” storyline. As in will they get together or not. But there have been other great “couples” that have been just friends or simple related to each other in one way or another. In fact, you could have hated enemies that would be considered a “great couple”. So in this tournament, you will find all kinds of couples, from romantic couples to family members, just friends and even hated enemies. There are even a pair of identical twins.

It should be noted how these characters were able to qualify for this tournament. First, the show that these characters were on had to have an aired a new episode since June 2012. Characters from shows that aired new episodes earlier in 2012 would only be eligible, if there were going have new episodes earlier in 2013. So some cable and premium channel shows that finished a season before June 2012, but were coming back this year with new episodes, would be eligible. So basically to qualify for this tournament, characters must be from a TV show that has aired a new episode since June 2012, and is either airing right now or will air new episodes later this year.

Now here is how the qualifying characters were selected. First, I looked at all of the shows that were eligible and came up with one or more “couples” that make that show work. It should be noted that in some cases I couldn’t single out just 2 people. So from certain shows there will be 3 or 4 people grouped together. I felt the relationship between those people were what made the show. So before you ask, in this tournament a “couple” can mean more than 2 people. But for the most part, it is just two people. I narrowed down the list of couples to 128. Yes, that is a lot, but there are a lot of shows on TV and a lot of couples out there. I eventually picked out the top 32 couples. Those couples were the ONLY ones to actually be seeded. They each get one of the top 8 seeds in the 4 different regions. The other couples were basically placed in the bracket in random order. Some couples had more “weight” than others, but depending on how you look at it, there might be few upsets in this tournament. The only time you could truly call it an upset is if one of the top 32 seeds loses in the early rounds of the tournament.

A few more things before we get to the bracket. Just like the real NCAA Tournament, there were some couples from automatic qualifying shows. They might have been in lesser conferences i.e. networks, but they each won their network tournament to earn a spot in the championship tournament. So you will see a few shows from each of the “lesser” cable networks with a few more from the “upper” cable and premium networks. But the majority of shows come from ABC, FOX, NBC, CBS, and THE CW. Even with 128 couples, I’m sure there are still some of your favorites that didn’t make it into the field. But the majority of your favorites should be there. Take a look at the bracket yourself by going here:

2013 Inside Pulse Best Television Show Couple Tournament Bracket

Remember, when you do place your votes in this tournament, you should always vote on who is the best TV couple RIGHT NOW. Some of these couples have been around for years, but some are brand new. This is not an All-Time tournament. This is as of right now, who is the best. And remember, what you are really voted on is which relationship is the best for that show? If you took out these characters from a show, would it be the same? If it wouldn’t, that is who you would vote for.

As you can see there are four different regions with 8 top seeds each, and 24 other couples. There are no byes this year, so that means there are 64 matchups in the first round that need YOUR votes! The 64 first round polls are below. So the time is now. Tell all your friends. It’s up to YOU to VOTE for which couple you think is the best on TV. Make sure to vote for all the matchups as every vote counts.

Not one successful television show has lived on star power alone. There might have been one name that stuck when a show first started, but if a show is going to survive more than one season, it has to have an ensemble of actors and characters. Every great show has had that in common. More importantly, there is usually a “couple” or a team of characters that are the heart of every show. Without these characters, the show wouldn’t be the same.

First, the show that these characters were on had to have aired a new episode since June 2012. Characters from shows that aired new episodes earlier in 2012 would only be eligible, if that show was going have new episodes in 2013.

First, we looked at all of the shows that were eligible and came up with one or more “couples” that make that show work. It should be noted that in some cases we couldn’t single out just 2 people. So from certain shows there will be 3 or 4 characters grouped together. We felt the relationship between those people were what made the show. So before you ask, in this tournament a “couple” can mean more than 2 people. That means is room in this tournament for “love triangles” and even “love quads” that haven’t been resolved yet. But for the most part, it is just two people. We finally narrowed down the list of couples to 128. Yes, that is a lot, but there are a lot of shows on TV and a lot of couples out there. We eventually picked out the top 32 couples.

But the majority of shows come from ABC, FOX, NBC, and CBS. Even with 128 couples, I’m sure there are still some of your favorites that didn’t make it into the field. But the majority of your favorites should be there. Take a look at the bracket by going here:

2013 Inside Pulse Best Television Show Couple Tournament Bracket

Remember, when you do place your votes in this tournament, you should always vote on who is the best TV couple RIGHT NOW. Some of these couples have been around for years, but some are brand new. This is not an All-Time tournament. This is as of right now, who is the best. And remember, what you are really voting on is which relationship is the best for that show? If you took out these characters from a show, would it be the same? If it wouldn’t, that is who you would vote for.

As you can see there are four different regions with 8 top seeds each, and 24 other couples. There are no byes this year, so that means there are 64 matchups in the first round that need YOUR votes! The first 16 polls are below. MAKE SURE TO CLICK THE LINKS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE TO GO TO THE REST OF THE FIRST ROUND MATCHUPS. So the time is now. Tell all your friends. It’s up to YOU to VOTE for which couple you think is the best on TV. Make sure to vote for all the matchups as every vote counts.

Best TV Show March Madness Bracket Tournament 2012 – Championship Round Voting Begins with Modern Family and The Walking Dead Facing Off http://insidepulse.com/2012/04/23/best-tv-show-march-madness-bracket-tournament-2012-championship-round-voting-begins-with-modern-family-and-the-walking-dead-facing-off/ http://insidepulse.com/2012/04/23/best-tv-show-march-madness-bracket-tournament-2012-championship-round-voting-begins-with-modern-family-and-the-walking-dead-facing-off/#comments Mon, 23 Apr 2012 11:00:35 +0000 http://insidepulse.com/?p=297308 After a record number of votes, the Final Four has ended. There was plenty of back and forth leads in both matchups. But in the end, we are left with one #1 seed facing off against an unseeded show.

The battle between #1 Modern Family and #2 The Big Bang Theory was a tight one. It looked like The Bang Theory was going to pull off the victory. But some late votes for Modern Family proved to be the difference. Modern Family won, but just barely, with only 51% of the vote.

The Cinderella Story continues as The Walking Dead has pulled off another upset. But it didn’t look like that in the beginning. Burn Notice was on cruise control early. It was well on its way to victory, until Walking Dead fans woke up and voted for that show by the hundreds. In the end, The Walking Dead easily won this matchup with 68% of the vote.

The Walking Dead has defeated a #1, #2, #3, and #5 seed on its way to the final round. Modern Family defeated two #2 seeds, a #4, and #8 seed on its way to the finals. Can the cable drama with less viewers defeat one of the most watched and most beloved comedies on TV for the crown of “Best Show on Television Today”? Only you can decide!

The Killing continued the inquiry into tattoo guy and the mob. They actually catch the tattoo guy and find his drawing of Rosie. Another red herring? Could the show have been fixed? I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

A common complaint non-Mad Men watchers have about the show is that it’s boring and just people sitting around talking. Yes, it is people sitting around talking, but have you ever been so entertained by people sitting around and talking? I think not. There’s something mystical about the show’s ability to do so much with so little. Have Peggy take all of Roger’s money–instant smiles–then this week have her exclaim that Lane is beating up Peter–instant smiles. The episode takes a step back and look at four men–Peter, Don, Lane, and Ken. All are very different people in very different places. The episode focuses more on the three who aren’t Don, and because of a glancing look at Don, it seems like he has a much better life than the rest of the them.

Game of Thrones: Varys has a great conversation with Tyrion about power (one of the highlights of the book, IMO), and he concludes that power is an illusion. Indeed, despite people’s proclamations of fealty or piety, they couldn’t care less. What matters is how far up the ladder they can be in the future. We see this illustrated in the next scene, as Yoren and others are killed without a second thought. They’re supposed to be the Night’s Watch, a group all the kingdoms are supposed to support, and they’re supposed to be allowed to make it to the Wall unimpeded. But does Amory Lorch care? Not in the least bit. He’s going to help the Lannisters who currently hold King’s Landing.

Major book spoilers ahead, read at your own peril: There were again many deviations from the book. There was stuff with Loras, Renly, and Margaery that clearly wasn’t in the book, but the additions don’t change the plot on a large scale. What really caught my attention, however, was Shae becoming handmaiden for Sansa. In the book, over halfway through, Shae becomes handmaiden of Lollys after Lollys gets rape by the mob after they send Myrcella off to Dorne at the docks. This seemed like a pretty big deal in the book, a culmination of the growing unrest at King’s Landing that had been building, setting the stage for an unruly King’s Landing before Stannis’s assault. Is the show going to skip over this? Another less important deviation was Arya, Gendry, and the others getting captured at that point. They’re suppose to run away for a bit before getting caught later, but it’s not important.

Although this season of Fringe hasn’t exactly been my favorite, I’ve accepted this new format and I’ve grown to like it. Yes, the writers threw away three seasons of development–which was part of confusion over Broyles since he did die last season–but it’s fine for the most part. It turns out that Broyles was not a shapeshifter but was helping Jones in exchange for saving his son’s health. Unlike Walter, though, Broyles mostly owns up to it quickly, turning himself in to the other Broyles. The other big development was Jones continuing to cause trouble, culminating with the revelation that he wants to destroy both universes. OK… I have no clue what that’s about…

Grimm: Lots of people liked last week’s episode and it’s quite understandable. Nick’s new gang, consisting of himself, Monroe, and now Rosalie, is awesome and with the fast pace and the great humanization of Adalind, the episode had a lot going for it. That said, the overarching plot with Renard and Adalind and the key is awful. The master plan was for Adalind to seduce Hank to put him in a coma to somehow get Nick to turn over the key. Whose terrible plan was this? Why not go after Juliette? Why not provide back up? And we still don’t know who the fuck Renard is.

Awake is definitely not coming back for another season, but even in the first season it seems like the show is headed towards a wild conclusion. The Brittons in the red world are moving to Oregon, breaking the locational link between the two worlds.

Up All Night’s first season wasn’t groundbreaking and it was never a show I watched for laughs, but it had a comfortable, welcoming feeling. Christina Applegate and Will Arnett had amazing chemistry from day one and eventually even Maya Rudolph fit in.

With talk that The Office will be completely overhauled–the current cast reduced to recurring and a new batch coming in–I actually think that wouldn’t be too bad. We’ve seen the show struggle greatly in Michael’s last seasons and especially since his departure. Andy clearly isn’t a suitable replacement, as he has all of Michael’s bad traits without the cluelessness that made Michael a fun character. I wouldn’t mind if Creed was given center stage for once.

Psych’s season never had a SERIOUS episode, a staple on the show since “An Evening with Mr. Yang” back in the third season, not that it ever needed one. The season finale is mostly a light affair, but it dives into Henry’s past and ends with him getting shot. Now, this being Psych, I don’t think Henry will die. But if he did, it would fit

Justified: Now that’s a finale! Fast, twisty, and of course bloody. Very bloody with the way Quarles left the world. At the same time, the shock of Quarles getting his armed chopped off was tempered by Quarles still alive, reaching for his arm, and Raylan pulling it back–funny stuff we’ve come to expect behind the mayhem of the show. I was surprised Arlo survived, but with Raylan stating that Arlo shot at person with the hat without recognizing the face pretty much puts him on the short list of people Raylan needs to kill.

Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23 was pretty great. There’s Krysten Ritter as the eponymous bitch and James Van Der Beek as the Beek himself. Chloe becoming “friendly” with June happened a little too quick, but I’m not sure it would be even possible in thirty minutes to turn someone from total bitch to semi-friend.

I haven’t commented on New Girl (or any comedy, really), but I wanted to say how much I like the characters together. We really get the sense that these characters know and like each other a lot and want to hang up.

I feel like I’m beating a dead horse, but, yeah, Glee sucked. The plots were again contrived and the songs overproduced (and for once, badly lip synced). The one saving grace–a big one, I’ll admit–was Matt Bomer. His lesson about pointing had me cracking up.

The way NCIS ended last week was a bit weird. It seemed like the episode would end with a raid on the warehouse, allowing the heroes who’d been shot at earlier a chance to shootup the cartel. Instead, we just see Gibbs looking at a news report.

See how pleasant Bones can be when the characters aren’t arguing over trivial things? The show will never have a plot as cool as Gormogon, but I hope it keeps up.

Being Human’s second season was a big letdown. Maybe it would have been better if any of the three plots were any good but they were all equally bad. None were particularly exciting or interesting or emotional or anything.

Castle staged a Firefly reunion, bringing Adam Baldwin to play a Detective Slaughter. It was cool to see Mal and Jayne reunited, the dinosaur toy, and the brown coat, but the episode stood on its own because Slaughter was such a different character. The episode got bogged down in stupid Beckett drama, but it didn’t hinder the episode as as whole.

Smash continues having the problem with too many characters and too many uninteresting storylines. The arrival of Rebecca Duvall was done well, as the first thing she does is sing out of key. From there, we see that she clearly shouldn’t be in the role and has an attitude, but also that she could play the part adequately.

House, the show and the character, tried to deceive everyone by bringing in Wilson’s son. We’re led to believe that this kid is perfect and Wilson will have a son who is everything he wanted. Only, this is House, the show and the character. The show has basically resigned itself to never tackling anything of importance, and the character is a long string of pranks. So in the end it was a big prank and we can all go back to what we were doing before. For a while during the episode, I thought the kid might actually be real, considering this is the last season. Maybe the writers would take a chance towards the end of the series. But no, we should never overestimate these writers, and just assume the lowest denominator to be true.

Interesting, in this week’s episode, the writers give a little nod towards House and Donika, with House throwing away her INS letter. Well at least something came about another overwrought discussion of everyone’s love life.

Best TV Show March Madness Bracket Tournament 2012 – Final 4 Round Voting Begins with Burn Notice, Modern Family, Big Bang Theory, and The Walking Dead Facing Off http://insidepulse.com/2012/04/09/best-tv-show-march-madness-bracket-tournament-2012-final-4-round-voting-begins-with-burn-notice-modern-family-big-bang-theory-and-the-walking-dead-facing-off/ http://insidepulse.com/2012/04/09/best-tv-show-march-madness-bracket-tournament-2012-final-4-round-voting-begins-with-burn-notice-modern-family-big-bang-theory-and-the-walking-dead-facing-off/#comments Mon, 09 Apr 2012 11:00:27 +0000 http://insidepulse.com/?p=295643 The Elite 8 round voting has ended and there is still one Cinderella show that has made it to the Final Four. But it was fight to get there for sure. The rest of the final four features two #1 seeds and one #2 seed. That means another #1 seed went down this round. Lets breakdown what happened.

The final matchup of the ABC Region saw the #2 seed Big Bang Theory defeat the #1 seed Breaking Bad. It wasn’t really much of a contest as BBT won with 64% of the vote. This simply came down to the major network show having more viewers and votes than a cable show, because if every voter would have seen both shows the result would likely be the opposite. That’s just my opinion, though.

The final matchup of the FOX Region also had another lopsided #1 vs. #2 seed battle. This time it was the #1 seed Modern Family taking down the #2 seed New Girl. This came down to an established award-winning comedy beating a brand new comedy. Modern Family has a two year head start on New Girl and that showed in the voting results as Modern Family won with 75% of the vote.

The CBS Region has been officially blown up. It came down to 2 votes, but the unseeded show, The Walking Dead, has moved on to the Final Four. The last remaining seed from this region, #5 Justified, almost came back but its comeback wasn’t enough. The Walking Dead has defeated a #2, #3, and #5 seed to get to the Final Four. Now it will have to face a #1 seed.

The final matchup of the NBC Region was another no contest. #1 Burn Notice easily defeated #3 True Blood with 78% of the vote. The likely reason behind this victory could be simply that Burn Notice is a basic cable show and True Blood is on the premium pay channel HBO.

So looking ahead to the Final Four, we have a couple of interesting matchups. One matchup features a #1 vs. #2 seed. Both Modern Family and Big Bang Theory are on major networks, ABC and CBS respectively. On the other side of the bracket we have two cable shows facing off. One is a #1 seed that has been nearly unstoppable, Burn Notice. Its opponent is the unseeded, The Walking Dead, that has surprised everyone by looking unbeatable as well. One of them has to lose in this round, though.

If you don’t know what this is all about, go back to the First Round Voting Page, Second Round Voting Page, and Third Round Voting Page, Sweet 16 Round Voting Page, and Elite 8 Round Voting Page and get all of the details there. The rest of the bracket looks about what was expected. There are 8 shows left. Let breakdown what happened in this past round.

The ABC Region has held true to form. The final matchup of this region will feature a #1 vs. #2 matchup. #1 Breaking Bad defeated #4 The Office by just 3 votes. A close call for sure. #2 The Big Bang Theory didn’t have much of a problem defeating #3 Parks and Recreation, though. Big Bang Theory had twice as many votes as Parks and Recreation. This leads to an interesting Cable show drama vs. CBS sitcom battle.

The final matchup of the FOX Region will also feature a #1 vs. #2 matchup. The results were also pretty similar. #1 Modern Family had an easy time with #4 Chuck winning with 71% of the vote, the most of any winner from this round. On the other hand, #2 New Girl won by just 4 votes over #3 Once Upon A Time. We are left with two major network sitcoms battling here.

The CBS Region was almost completely blown up. But it still doesn’t look like any of the other regions. Another top ranked show, #2 Dexter, has been eliminated. The unranked show, The Walking Dead, continued its Cinderella run by beating Dexter by 4 votes. In another close matchup, Criminal Minds almost made it a unranked final. But #5 Justified pulled out the victory by just 1 vote. So from this region only one seeded show is left, and it’s a #5 seed at that. A couple of cable channel dramas will now fight for their chance to make it to the Final Four.

The NBC Region also pretty much looks like you would expect. It will feature a #1 vs. #3 matchup in the final. #1 Burn Notice won with 62% of the vote against #4 How I Met Your Mother. #3 True Blood won the battle of the premium channel shows by 9 votes over the unranked Weeds. So that finally leads to a cable show drama vs. premium channel drama.

So out of the final 8 shows, 7 of them were ranked. Two matchups will feature the top seeds from those regions facing off. Another has a #1 vs. #3. Then, there is one region that features a couple of wildcard shows. If you really look at it, it’s pretty similar to what the real NCAA Basketball Tournament looks like this year. Just 5 dramas and 3 comedies left.

One last interesting thing to note. There is only 1 channel that has more than 1 show among the final 8 shows. If you would guess that channel, it probably would take about 8 guesses before you could get it right, though. Maybe more than that. The cable channel, AMC, is the only channel with 2 shows in the final 8. FOX, ABC, and CBS each have 1 show left. As does the USA Network, FX, and HBO.

If you don’t know what this is all about, go back to the First Round Voting Page, Second Round Voting Page, and Third Round Voting Page, Sweet 16 Round Voting Page and get all of the details there.
