Scott Smith And Cung Le Will Fight Again On June 26

Cung Le wanted a rematch with Scott Smith, and he'll get exactly what he wanted on June 26, when the two will fight in San Jose on the Strikeforce and M-1 Global co-promoted show that will feature a fight between Fedor Emelianenko and Fabricio Werdum. The fight is expected to be the co-main event along with the Emelianenko-Werdum bout. »»

Ranking the Strikeforce Middleweight Division: Matchmaking future fights

Last night Strikeforce served up two middleweight fights worth tweeting about. Cung Le may have proved that he is the best pure kicker in the sport of mixed martial arts, but it was not enough to finish off the unflappable Scott Smith. Le’s loss leaves us all to speculate, will Le ever compete in an MMA fight again? In the evening's other middleweight affair, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza made his Strikeforce debut an impressive one, having his way with veteran and former Olympian Matt Lindland. Souza stated in his post fight comments that he expects nothing less then a title shot in 2010. The question is, who will he have to submit his way through? With last nights shakeup in the division, lets take a look at the current Strikeforce middleweight standings. »»

Smith, Melendez win big at Strikeforce: 'Evolution'

Scott Smith welcomed Cung Le back to the fight world after the kickboxer spent some time in the movie industry. Ironically, Smith’s knockout victory was one fit for the silver screen. Cung Le was completely dominate over Scott Smith at Strikeforce: “Evolution” for the first 13 minutes of the three round fight, until Scott Smith turned the tables and put away the stellar kickboxer. Le nearly finished Smith in the first round with spinning-back kicks galore. At one point in the first, referee “Big” John McCarthy seemed very close to ending the contest when Smith ‘s defense against Le’s ground and pound seemed to be a little short of the intelligence standard the officials look for. »»

Cung Le to return opposite Scott Smith at Strikeforce: Evolution

After vacating his Strikeforce middleweight title this past September, Cung Le (6-0) will return to the promotion this Dec. against Scott Smith, sources close to the event told MMAjunkie.com. The Dec. 19 show for Strikeforce, coined "Evolution", will be Le's first time in the cage since March of 2008 when he successfully won the 185-pound belt over Frank Shamrock. Le left mixed martial arts for over a year to work on a career in the movie industry. He starred in the Pandorum and Fighting. He will be featured in the movie Tekken, which will be released this year. »»

Strikeforce strikes gold with ‘Lawler vs. Shields’ fight card

The Scottrade Center in St. Louis was rocking Saturday night as Strikeforce 2.0 brought MMA fans their second fight card since acquiring the assets of Elite XC earlier this year. Two of those assets collided in the main event with former Elite XC champions Jake Shields and Robbie Lawler facing off. Jake Shields made it quick and look easy as he submitted his way to victory in the first round. Shields looked more then competent on his feet and kept the more powerful Lawler at bay with an effective use of leg kicks. Before the crowd realized it, Lawler was in one of Shield’s patented submissions (a guillotine) and was forced to tap out. »»

Ruthless Robbie Lawler: Blue Collar Brawler

Granite City, Illinois is a hard working, blue collar industrial town that has been hit hard over the years by deindustrialization and weak economic conditions both foreign and domestic.  In 2006, author Dave Gilmartin choose various cities and towns across the United States to feature in his book Absolutely Worst Places to Live in America.  Granite City was prominently featured starting on page 113.   Nevertheless, there is one business operation that continues to thrive since opening its doors in a nondescript warehouse on the western end of this unspectacular and ghostly town. Suite D at 400 A Street is headquarters for the H.I.T. (Hughes Intensive Training) Squad, one of the premier mixed martial arts gyms in the country.  The facility is co-owned by former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes and former EliteXC middleweight champion Robbie Lawler.  »»
