Inside Pulse » Toy Fair Toy Fair 2014 Awards: Best Toyline Fri, 28 Feb 2014 16:30:25 +0000 In our final award of this years Toy Fair Awards, we have Best Toyline. What line is the most anticipated? What line ‘wowed’ us most? Can TMNT repeat? All questions we pondered while looking over this year’s lines. Guardians of the Galaxy has us in a tizzy, Transformers 4 toys look like the best run of movie toys from them, and the new 1990 Movie TMNT Classics look amazing! But this year, a new comer to action figures takes the cake, Funko!

Funko’s Game of Thrones was the most impressive set of action figures we saw all week at Toy Fair! But, what really gets us, is that the diverse characters already being produced by the company, ensuring a longer lasting run. When you think Game of Thrones figures, The Hound, Brienne of Tarth, and a White Walker are not exactly the first that come to mind, yet are wanted characters in plastic! all figures have a super-articulated sculpt being used, that can be compared to Hasbro’s Marvel Legends & Star Wars: The Black Series. Put that all in an impressive looking packaging, and we have the Best Toyline of Toy Fair 2014!

Toy Fair 2014 Awards: Biggest Surprise Thu, 27 Feb 2014 19:35:11 +0000 Our 4th award to be given out is the Biggest Surprise. With the evolution of technology, it is getting harder and harder to keep certain items, especially when many toy companies give stories to big media, like USA Today & MTV, to publish in the weeks leading to Toy Fair. However, this year was able to keep something under wraps, and completely blow us away at Toy Fair, Star Wars: The Black Series Deluxe Jabba the Hutt & Biker Scout with Speeder!

The 6-inch Star Wars: The Black Series has been bittersweet to most. We all love the additional detail & articulation that the 6-inch format allows, but there is no chance that Hasbro will be able to produce the amount of characters that we all want, and with a hefty price tag, it’s hard to imagine the 6-inch format to be around for the long term. However, Hasbro is making use of the time they have with the line while it lasts! The Deluxe line up for now just includes 2 figures, Jabba & the Biker Scout, but boy do they pack a punch. The Biker Scout comes with the full Speeder Bike, including a clear base to keep the illusion of elevation. Not only that, but the base is articulated, so you can have the Bike slanting up, down, or sideways! Jabba does not include any special accessory, but really, why would he (except maybe Salacious!). However, when you move his arms, his mouth does move, as if he is talking….or chewing.

Hasbro, you got us, and we thank you for it!

Toy Fair 2014 Awards: Best Playset Thu, 27 Feb 2014 13:38:44 +0000 Welcome back to the Toy Fair 2014 Awards! This time around, we are talking playsets! Playsets are few & far between these days. TMNT had a very cook playset with the Sewer Lair a few years ago, and MOTU had their Castle Grayskull last year, but there not many others that really catch the eye of any of us collectors. However, this year, Wicked Cool Toys has filled a glaring hole in many WWE collector’s eyes, the Authentic Scale Ring!

This ring playset takes the place of Mattel’s Elite Scale Ring that saw the light of day in late 2010. The price tag was high, and it seems as it did not sell too well, and Mattel dumped the product to buy out chains, like Big Lots. Many collectors who missed out in the short window the item was offered are still clamoring for one, and they have even reached over $200 on the second hand market. Enter Wicked Cool Toys, who has a suitable replacement. Complete with a cloth mat, rubber turnbuckle pads, and the official WWE ringskirt, this will be an item that no WWE action figure fan should pass up!

Toy Fair 2014 Awards: Best New Toyline Wed, 26 Feb 2014 16:08:16 +0000 The next award to be given out this year is the Best New Toyline! Every year, some new lines are announced, and this year did not disappoint! NECA debuted their Planet of the Apes, Mezco had Sons of Anarchy, & Mattel surprised us with the Super Powers MattyCollector line. However this year belongs to a new toy company, and a line that resurgences every few years…Street Fighter from Capo Toys!

We here at Inside Pulse Figures love Street Fighter, and we were a huge fan of the SOTA line a few years ago. So, when we heard about Capo’s new line, we were a big skeptical…I mean, how can you improve on SOTA! Well, Capo wowed us with the first 5 Street Fighter figures! Sagat, Ryu, Blanka, Chun-Li & Guile round out an All-Star first assortment. The first line will also feature some cloth outfits, like Ryu’s gi & Sagat’s shorts. To top it all off, Capo revealed that they already have the first 5 assortments cleared by Capcom…and on a personal note, they assured me that they know that DeeJay needs an action figure (but did not confirm he was planned). It’s pretty safe to say that Capo is ready to hang it’s hat on this line!

Toy Fair 2014 Awards: Best Action Figure Tue, 25 Feb 2014 13:05:04 +0000 Welcome to Day One of the Toy Fair 2014 Awards! We kick the Awards off with Best Action Figure!

This is not an easy Award to give out, especially since we are unable to pick up the figures to get a sense of play-ability & articulation. However there were a good amount of figures we could have gone with. The ECW Flashback CM Punk, Guardians of the Galaxy Groot, Capo Toys’ new Street Fighter Ryu, and Super Mario from SH Figuarts all made our short list. However they all fell short to the DC Collectibles Batman from The New Adventures of Batman animated series!

With literally hundreds of action figures, one would think that we’ve seen it all with Batman. DC Collectibles proves that wrong time and time again, but they have even out done themselves this time! This figure, the first 6″ figure based on the Bruce Timm animated universe, features 24 points of articulation, more than any animated Batman figure ever made. It will include accessories, although none were confirmed, batarangs are a given at this point.

DC Collectibles has huge plans with this line, with Two-Face & Mr Freeze, also from The New Adventures, and Catwoman, from 1992 Batman: The Animated Series rounding out the first series, and a second series already in the planning stages.
