In this issue we once again focus on Mark who is more aware of his distinction on Earth, and lashes out as a result of it. He finally gets his wish of interaction with the outside world and his “peers,” only to find out that he’s not equipped to handle it, and that the outside world can be a truly cruel place.

We also meet Kyle Richmond whose parents are killed before his eyes. We get a glimpse of the enigmatic Princess. We also learn that a psych patient named Phil has a child who is pretty adept at swimming. Lastly we see how the power source of Mark’s spacecraft can be used as a weapon, and how Joe Ledger gets kind of attached to it.

I’m always up for an examination of super-heroes. The Marvel spin on the Justice League makes for an interesting read. Stracznski has created some three dimensional characters that are very entertaining. My only qualm with the issue is that it looks as though Mark’s arrival on Earth will be responsible for the origins of several characters. To me it makes it kind of cheesy, just like it is on “Smallville” every week. I’m also skeptical about the whole Kyle Richmond scenario. Oh well I guess I’m going to have to keep reading.

Gary Frank’s art is gorgeous. I was a huge fan of his work on Supergirl, and was sorry to see him go. But his pencils combined with Sibal’s inks look like nothing I’ve ever seen, and we haven’t seen any costumes yet! I couldn’t pick out a panel that looks especially well done, because they all look great.

I am enjoying my first foray into a Marvel book. While it is extremely well done, it is a tad over hyped. But I enjoy reading it every month.
