The Weekend Hotline: 10.04.03

Archive

Well, since I’m writing this on Thursday evening, I’m not going to have too much to say about the actual news. This weekend is the Third Annual “Siena Boys Gamble Their Lives Away In Atlantic City Weekend.” Which means on Saturday when this posts I’ll either be sleeping or gambling. I won’t be drinking because of this stupid mono and when I find out who gave it to me, I’m organizing a posse of Hotline readers to lay the smacketh down. Who’s with me?

I just did my first week on the Atkins diet and, as unhealthy as I still think it is, It did work. I managed to drop from 222 to 217 in a week and a half. This is after having stagnated at 222 for more than two months. More on this situation as it develops.

Rush Rejected

OK, so, I haven’t talked politics in this column much in the last couple months because nothing has really bothered me enough to spout off about but the whole thing with Rish Limbaugh resigning from ESPN because of what he said about Donovan McNabb is ridiculous.

I mean, OK a lot of people hate Rush I get that. Also, I’m sure a whole lot of people didn’t care to see him on there I get that, too. But Jesus, he didn’t even say anything that bad. He called Donovan McNabb out on being overrated and that he is a media darling because the media wants to see a black quarterback succeed.

First off Donovan McNabb IS an overrated quarterback and, until he shows me that he doesn’t choke like a porn starlet on Peter North’s load in important games, he will continue to be overrated. Yes he’s good, yes he can pass, and yes he can run but he falls about when real things are on the line. That is not a great QB, that’s an overrated QB. And until he can break that stigma, I’ll never think he’s as good as anyone else.

Secondly those statements were a dig at the media not at Donovan McNabb. Calling him overrated was a dig at Donovan McNabb, and that had nothing to do with him being black. In the same way the media has totally overrated the rescued girl soldier whose name escapes me, they overrate a McNabb. Is it possible that they want to see a black Quarterback succeed? Do you think? Maybe? People have argued that McNabb isn’t the first. No, he isn’t but you also don’t see people reporting on what Doug Johnson is doing right now either nor do you hear about Warren Moon. Why? Because he was really good but he’s just not that BIG Quarterback you hear about.

Thirdly doesn’t it BOTHER anyone how quickly your life can be f*cked up just by saying something that barely approaches racism? I mean, Rush still has his radio show he’s not going to be hurting (minus the drug charges, but that’s a different animal) but I mean seriously. The PC police are all over the world. It kind of scares me a little bit.

Fourthly to all the douchebags that are saying “Rush says racist things on his show all the time.” Take three f*cking hours to listen to the radio program before you are suddenly an expert on what happens on it. Anyone who repeats that statement after never having listened to the show is an idiot. But, of course, if you repeat a lie enough times, it eventually becomes the truth (See Also: Secondhand Smoke Causes Cancer and DWI is the Number One Cause of Car Related Deaths in the nation).

Fifthly to all the douchebags saying: he doesn’t know anything about football, he is a political commentator. What exactly does it take to “know” football. Again, if you have ever LISTENED to the show, you would know that he talks football every year. He has as much right to talk about football as James Brown or Bob Costas. That being someone who has never played the game, was a fan, and happens to be a commentator.

Sixthly no, I don’t listen to his show anymore, but did for about three years in high school and college. So, yes, I am qualified to discuss the content of said show.

Seventhly if any of you ACTUALLY think this will cost him the radio gig, you’re more clueless than I thought. The Vicodin thing THAT might cost him the radio gig.

Eric, I leave it to you.

The Week in Wrestling

Raw

The highlight reel started the show Bischoff was the special guest and report that, due the Stunner he received, Austin was suspended for a week thus guaranteeing Austin will be there tonight. Jericho then brought out the real guest Good Ol JR, who is in a Leather Strap Match with Coach tonight for the announce position. He is also in a Leather Strap Match with a Ring Rat later, but that may not be televised.

I’m sure someone has used that joke before. I just don’t know who.

Long and short of it was, Jericho put JR in the Walls (which led to Coach screaming about 25 too many times for Jericho to leave some for him) which brought out Austin who, of course, was suspended. Bischoff wanted him escorted out, so the security guards got stunners.

Test and Steiner had a chance at the World Tag Team Titles vs the Dudleys, but Steiner pulled Test off the pin. Pay attention to that because it will be important later. Test was about to use a chair and Stacy pulls it away from him and hits him with it this leads to a 3D and the loss of the title shot for Test and Steiner.

Post-match, Steiner saves Stacy from Test Abuse and then turns on her because she’s been screwing him over as of late.

The announcers say it’s because she lost him the tag belts.

OK, I had no problem with this until that came up. He turned on her because she lost him the tag belts after not A MINUTE AGO pulling Test off a pin so they wouldn’t win the tag belts. I have no problem switching up the story since the feud is getting boring, but lets AT LEAST try not to contradict the plotline IN THE SAME GODDAM SEGMENT.

Kane delivered a promo where he was going to make a little kid at ringside feel his pain. Kane was an alter boy? Hurricane makes the save as Team HurriKane explodes! Rosey makes the save when Kane gets the upper hand, which I’m sure will lead to a Handicap match that will do nothing for anyone involved.

HHH put a $100,000 bounty on Goldberg’s head I’m ok with that. It’ll give Goldberg an excuse to beat up scrubs for a couple months leading to Survivor Series. They should have made it a million though, just for the true shock value.

The Coach vs JR. JR got the announce position back. What was the point of wasting our lives with the match at the last PPV if you were going to reverse the storyline two weeks later?

No, it was just Kane vs Hurricane which was less than a minute. Way to take one of those characters people like and bury him constantly!

Goldberg & HBK vs Evolution. I actually thought this was going to be a turn for Shawn Michaels. If HHH is set on becoming a face when he comes back, I thought this would be the perfect setup for it. As it stands now, Flair and Orton will probably have to turn on him and even that isn’t guaranteed to work. Rodney Mack of all people runs in for the DQ finish (?). Post match, Goldberg spears Mack as JR calls it a Jackhammer.

The Ladder Match was totally worth watching I’m always amused by JR’s exaggerations the ladder went from seven, to ten, to fifteen feet all over the course of the match. Gotta love the hype. However it didn’t detract from what was a really good main event which finally saw RVD go over for the IC Title. How long he keeps it is another story.

Smackdown

Great US Title match to start things off. I guess they’re seriously throwing some weight behind Eddie walking around with two belts is unheard of lately. I don’t know if that shows they’re behind him, their unwillingness to elevate more people, or the thinness of the roster. Regardless, it’s good for Eddie Fans. Eddie cheated to win. That’s ok, though, it’s Eddie.

Backstage, show doesn’t like Eddie’s kind. Champions? That would explain why he hasn’t been one in so long.

APA Vs the Bashams. Yeah whatever.

Haas faced Benoit in a decent match, but not a match that you’d expect out of these two. Of course, it also ended with A-Train interference. I guess they need more time to develop something really good. And Albert was involved. I forgive them.

Steph accepts the I Quit match in tears. Whatever. Do they have a quota of one match that NO ONE CARES about on the card now-a-days? Who sits in the production meetings saying: “Hmmmm Vince Vs Steph . MONEY!!!” Not to mention: if Vince hates her so much: FUCKING FIRE HER. My Other question remains: Why hasn’t Linda had any problems with Vince being with Sable?

Unfortunately, Scott Keith already made the joke about diarreah being Orlando Jordan’s finisher, so I won’t do it here.

Decent but pointless tag match to finish the show with Brock/Cena vs Angle/Taker. Cena gets the pin.

It’s so amazing to me that one company can do things so right on one show and so wrong on another.

Newsbits and In Other Reading

Since I’m writing this on Thursday, Pank will probably cover anything I’ll say here, so I digress.

In Conclusion

Have a good weekend hopefully I don’t owe a casino my house and car by now.

Till next week.
